Personally, I am sick of either squeaking into the playoffs, just missing, or losing in the first round. The only way to do that is to have a successful rebuild with an injection of elite talent. We need to finish at the bottom of the standings to do that. Ideally we can get an elite C, elite D, and elite W in the next few years so we can be a perennial contender... just seems like way more fun in the long run.

You have a four on three, get some speed and talent out there with movement, stretch the defence, create space…yet somehow, we made it look claustrophobic with no room at all.

Awful decision making with a predictable outcome on that PP

Well he went to Toronto and their PP sucks now. So do they not have the players for a good PP? It was pretty good last year.

Coronato is going to be a player. Suspect he ends up being a 30+ goal guy with that shot. A lot to be excited about for the future for Flames fans.

I don't think NHL goalies are fooled by puck handlers closing in on them who jiggle their upper bodies or deke their heads without moving the puck from its straightforward movement. Kuzmenko's OT attempt and Andersson early in the game, for example.

The lack of motion in the offensive zone has been an issue the past two seasons and it's noticable on the PP.

Everyone is just static which makes it easy to defend.

The Jets just scored a PP goal and you have the bumper guy and the guy on the offside constantly moving, you never see that with the Flames.

Part of it is lack of talent but part of it is coaching for sure. The team plays very passive offensively.

I like Coronato! He should have been on the 4 on 3.

Did Treliving actually hire him after that atrocious year here?

Of course he did. LOL

Could you imagine what would happen if:

- they ever show up in the first period
- the powerplay ever produced anything

They are a competitive team running at 67% capacity.

I don’t know. I think the Flames are out producing their talent level at the moment

This is it. It's like saying imagine they were better. If they were better, they'd be better.

Every year, every team has dominant stretches and periods of time where they can't get out of their own zone. It's the good teams that spend more time playing well. The Flames are who they are at this point. Play hard, stay in good shape so they can still skate hard in the third period, and cash in where they can.

I do think other teams catch up with the fitness over the year and their 3rd periods normalize and they start to lose more than they win

The brutal special teams will catch up.

They aren’t good at anything.

The Flames are very structured in their own end, but are a mess on the breakout (forwards fly the zone, no outlets provided, high risk plays right inside our blue line) and seem to insist on carrying the puck through the neutral zone and beating defenders 1 on 1 to gain the offensive zone. It's shocking how many times we have a player try to rush the puck deep while their linemates are changing, have the puck turnover and create an odd man rush back the other way.

For a system that is so focused on not making a mistake when in their defensive zone coverage, they sure are lackadaisical about terrible turnovers everywhere else.

Their offensive zone system seems to be for the players to stand around waiting for the player with he puck to make something happen. Huberdeau in particular needs his other forwards to always be in motion.

It was a bad system last year with more talent, and is a bad system this year with less talent.

I think Coronato was our best forward today, and that he and Zary have been our best forwards overall this season.

I'd to see them get on the ice together more often.

It’s decent. It’s a miracle we are 7-5-3.

21st in GF
22nd in PP
22nd in shooting %

15th in GA
26 in PK
906 save %

The roster shows they are every bit as bad the numbers say they are.

Not even a PDO heater.

Flames hung around somehow, but getting outclassed by Buffallo kind of shows where this team is at.

It's not pretty, although in GSAE/60 Vladar is 20th and Wolf is 23rd (goalies with 4 games or more). Which I think means the Flames have had pretty solid goaltending.

Markstrom is 41.
