I don't understand the rush to call Cooley up anyways. Why not let him continue rolling on the wranglers? He has a contract for 2 years and pulling him up without first trading away Vladar just causes strange contract issues.

Vladar is great, but I will be glad to trade him to a desperate team as the season rolls on. No rush until someone offers something nice. How desperate do we think Colorado might get, for example?

That’s good. You should write Murray a letter.
Murray would be fine with it too. Saving $7.5 million a year is a no brainer.

I'm worried he'll become a coach-killer when the time comes to ramp this thing up and turn it into a playoff team/contender. Similar to what Darryl was trying to do.

His giveaway up the middle that lead to a goal the other night should have had him benched. But he was right back out there next shift. That has to be hard for a young player to see.
Or it shows a young player it's okay to make mistakes and the young player then plays a little looser knowing he won't get in the doghouse. Could go either way.

Trading Colorado a package of vladvar and kuzmenko could make sense.

Huberdeau: 12:25
Coronato: 12:22
Pospisil: 12:01
Kuzmenko: 12:00
Mantha: 11:49

He's already almost playing third line minutes.

But he leads the team with 3:10 of PP time per game. It's actually the most surprising part of his struggles, because even if he lost a step you think he'd be able to produce on the PP.

But it's weird because he also barely has the puck on the PP. In his time in Calgary the PP has never really ran through Huberdeau...he's out there but he rarely actually has the puck. I still think he needs to change to number 71, number 10 is cursed in Calgary.
Question isn’t ice time but role. At some point the young wingers in the organization will be better offensive players. There are already many better checkers and more physical players. And players that are faster and provide more energy.

What goal was that? He had a bad giveaway like that in OT, but it never led to a goal.

For sure that is the case this year. I meant that his role on PP1 will decrease or be eliminated over time as the roster becomes more talented with younger players. I see that happening sometime between 2 - 5 years from now.

If retaining 50% means you could move him without giving up draft capital or taking on a long contract, I would do it.

$5.25 million of dead cap hit 7 years from now is better than $10.5. And I just don't see the guy ever really being a good fit on this team if/when they are a contender.
I will pile on. His possession stats aren't too bad, but in key moments when you want him to create, he instead seems to kill a play, turn the puck over, run out of room, etc. Getting hard to watch. And his young teammates told to keep their feet moving, make solid choices and not make mistakes, get to watch a double standard starting to develop.

23 years late, but Jeremy Roenick almost played for the Flames in 2001

Conroy had more goals and points than Roenick in 2021-22.

I'm happy things turned out the way they did. Roenick would have probably outscored him, but then Conroy/Iginla would never have been a thing.

Wouldnt have had to be Roenick/Iggy. Just the fact those two would be in the same FW group would've put them over the edge against TB in 04.

Man that would have been an epic addition back then.

That would be interesting. I don’t think Vladar or Kuzmenko would return a 2nd round pick on their own (likely a 3rd round pick each) but combined and with full retention on Kuzmenko, maybe the flames could get a 2nd round pick.

The Avs probably can't take on cap since they presumably need to figure out a way to activate Nichushkin at some point.

And to go even further, if Conroy/Iginlas wasnt a thing its unlikely Conroy is GM today. Crazy how small changes would drastically change the present.

I remember years ago (after retiring), Reonick said that the Flames were a team he would have loved to play with, so basically the same thing.

If they got him for 3 years, he had 173 points in 216 games, which is hardly elite. After that it was a steep drop-off
