FC Edmonton was such a failure that it almost salted the Earth so that no club will be able to grow again. At this point Edmonton needs enough time to forget about FC Edmonton, in addition to a new stadium and solid ownership. Given that the cty has never supported club soccer it's a tough sell for any prospective owner.

I do miss those road trips.

Honestly a Red Bull Edmonton (RBE) team would be very interesting, similar to Atletico coming into Canada with Ottawa. There's a ton of Chads up there driving trucks and drinking Red Bull (Monster?), so they'd be catering to the right market with their label.

Maybe not necessarily Red Bull, but there may be a club out there in Europe that wants an extension team as part of a multi-club ownership scenario. Red Bull is one of them with five clubs already, but then you also have other big boys like Manchester City Football Group (11 teams worldwide) and Pacific Media Group (7 teams) among others.

Actually MCFG would be awesome to have investing in the CPL, assuming the league continues to grow. They could use it as a pipeline to get players from their smaller markets more North American exposure, from locations such as Australia, China, India, Japan, and Uruguay.
