This is where the average voter being dumb as #### is so difficult to overcome. Cause yeah if you individualized every policy item from a progressive platform and put them on the ballot as individual items a lot of them would pass, some overwhelmingly. Bundle them all together and make a single candidate the face of that platform, and that candidate likely loses a huge landslide, because they will be sold as "socialism/Marxist/communist/Maoist" etc...by the opposition, and that is DOA in America.

Canada does this (deports undocumented immigrants with kids born in Canada). Last year, there was a Roma family in Canada that was going to be deported after 6 years of trying to become "legal". During that time, they had 2 kids born in Canada, and then the verdict came down that they were to be deported. The whole family died trying to escape to the U.S. when the boat they were in flipped in the river. It was a really sad story.

Peter Ivanyi, a Toronto lawyer who had represented the Iordache family since 2018, said in an interview Tuesday the couple were desperate to stay in the country for the sake of their two children, who were Canadian citizens.

Ivanyi said his last communication with Florin Iordache was early last week to inform him that all the family's legal avenues to stay in Canada were exhausted and they were facing removal from the country on March 29. He believes that news prompted the Iordaches to attempt the risky river journey to the United States.

In a phone interview, Ivanyi said he doesn't believe Iordache really wanted to settle in the United States, despite having family in Florida, because his children were Canadian citizens. But he was determined they would not return to Romania and face the discrimination he and his wife had experienced as Roma.

I don't think people should be allowed to stay illegally, but if they do enter and at least declare that they are there and going through the system to try and get asylum, the process should be quick enough that they aren't having kids in the mean time. But for sure, you shouldn't have people sneaking in undocumented and countries have the responsibility to control who comes in. I don't agree with Trump's methods though because it still has to be a respectful and humane process.

It's a little different in Canada though. We have people here who come in undocumented and live with family and work under the table, but it's harder to live off of the grid here if you want health care so people tend to not do it unless they have a strong support system.

Progressive policies include things like raising the minimum wage, expanding Medicare, allocating more funds for public education, greater protection for workers, etc. All of these are supported by Democrats, Republicans, and independents.

You really think a Democratic Party that vociferously advocated for these things and had clear and easy to understand policies on them would have doe worse than a campaign that courted neocons?
