Rasmus has the giveaway but if Backlund wasnt behind his own net no way Marchand gets two whacks at the puck.

Backlund should be going behind the net there, he was anticipating Andersson to play it around the boards to him into the corner and up the right wing wall.
He was giving Andersson an outlet.
No reason for Backlund to be staying with Marchand when Flames had possession.
That's 100% on Andersson over handling the puck and not playing it up the boards sooner.

Hubey needed to move laterally when he got the puck in the slot in OT to change the angle and get Korpisalo moving out of his set stance.

Yeah, its bizarre how often Huberdeau is standing still. Must drive the coaching staff crazy.

Again it's overtime 3 on 3 with lots of space.
Backlund doesn't need to be an outlet for Rasmus behind his own net. He doesn't have to be marking Marchand tight either, but he should be close enough to not let Marchand get two uncontested whacks if the puck gets to him out of the puck battle.
If Andersson wins the battle behind and is only able to throw that corner far Backlund would get there first, so the bigger concern for any center would be if Andersson loses the puck battle and the Bruins top player is wide open in front.

Just petition the players to score an own goal when the game is tied. I’ll still take the entertaining games. I think they’ll slide as the season drags on. Out working skill only works for so long.

And frankly, I think Kuzmenko was quite good for most of the game.
The young D-Men? They're young D-men. They made some great plays against elite experienced players and then they made some dumb plays.
Thats what young D-men do.
Miromanov had me cheering and then subsequently holding my head in my hands.
Thems the breaks.

If Andersson plays the puck when he should have there wouldn't even have been a battle. He overplayed it, got caught by Lindholm, and Kadri and Backlund were going where they should have been going.
Marchand wasn't even Backlund's guy, Lindholm as the opposite center was. When Andersson gets the puck, Backlund is still right next to Lindholm, then Backlund goes to be an outlet and Lindholm disengages on Backlund and switches to Andersson.
All Andersson had to do was play it quickly around the RW boards and Flames might have a 2-1 the other way. Instead he took 3 or 4 strides and then tried to reverse it to where nobody would have been.
100% of that is on Andersson.

They are going to be in the playoff hunt. Too many decent vets, goalies are both good and young guys are getting better each game.

That was on Raz. He definitely messed up that play. Good comeback and both our goalies are playing well. I never want the players or the coaches to try to tank, that's on the GM to make happen.

Getting a point from this game, on the road in the east is cool. OT wasted , but I think of OTL's in games like this against eastern teams like ties of the old days.

Rasmus needed to go the direction of the puck, either himself or with a chip. If he even just clears the zone the game is in a shootout.

I’m ok with the loss, the Flames are clearly not Cup contenders this season, and better draft lottery odds are a good thing.
On the other hand, playing like you want and expect to win is also a good thing., so hard-fought losses are the best of both worlds.

No PGT…?? Cool, cool…
Flames sure like turning the puck over in their own end…
Anyway. For me, the Barrie experiment has run its course. Yes, he scored, but he’s a disaster defensively.
Poirier, Grushnikov and Brzustewicz have all played real well during the Wranglers games I’ve gone to this year. Would love to see any of them get some time up with the big club. (I mean-why not…?)
