I do wonder how much of this is consciously or subconsciously Americans just don't like the idea of a Woman being Prez or close to it. Palin was very Trumpy and they rejected her team for a Black Prez. They did elect Harris as VP, but that might be a special case because of the pandemic
Electing her VP was a huge step though. People accepted that she could have been President at any point in the last 4 years.

Well that may be, but last night was a huge step backwards. I'd be shocked if we see a female on the ticket again for the foreseeable.
That would be unfortunate, I don't think gender matters, it was hardly mentioned this time. The Biden-Harris ticket was more appealing as a rejection of Trumps 4 years and the Harris-Walz ticket was not appealing and could not overcome the rejection of Bidens 4 years. It's not like flipping to a Walz-Harris ticket would have won, it would have done worse.

Relax, it may just be that he’s a racist, sociopathic narcissist, homophobe, fake tough guy, adulterer, drug abuser, fast food addict, misogynist, rapist, pedo, serial liar, failed businessman, scammer, grifter, blasphemist, dictator wannabe, tax evader, cheater, or sexual predator just like his hero Von####sinpants…
In other words, you're a "newer" liberal and you disagree with him.

You don't think a black woman on the ticket had any bearing on the voting?
It's the U.S.........of course it did.
Guarantee the next Dem candidate is a white male.

I get what you’re saying to some degree but misinformation isn’t a new concept. While social media plays a roll, it’s tough to say that it is the biggest reason trump won. He got significantly fewer votes(as of last count) than he did in 2020, before musk bought twitter and when a pandemic was still limiting peoples’ ability to vote.
I’d argue that Biden’s early refusal to not run again and a lack of primaries for the democrat candidate played a much larger role in the results. Had Biden allowed for a proper campaign and for the democrats to see how unpopular of a choice Kamala really was during a primary they could have put a better candidate in her place.
This is exactly it. A lot of people were turned off by the fact that she did not have to get the people’s vote in the primary to get the candidacy.
Her choice of VP was a huge mistake as well. Walz showed poorly to swing voters and did nothing to energize the base. Colossal mistake not to pick the Pennsylvania governor and pick up votes in a key battleground state.

With Pennsylvania being 2.5 points a Homegrown VP was unlikely to make it up. In addition half of the Michigan loss is their position on Israel and the Jill Stein vote which Shapiro wouldn’t have helped with.
VP picks don’t really matter outside of the home state. And on this particular map certainly did not matter given she lost 3 states she needed to win.
I said this in one of the other threads, but she could have run a "perfect" campaign and she still would have lost. It was effectively an incumbent election against a deeply unpopular incumbent, it is very difficult to win those. Opendoor said it best, but what the swap really did was save some down ballot candidates who might have been part of an even bigger slaughter with Biden as nominee. As insane as this would have been her only real hope might have been trashing Biden at the convention speech as a means to separate herself from him. But she was running as an extension of Biden, just the mentally competent version. Was never going to be enough.
And yeah the next woman who will run will be a Republican, but even that I would suspect is at least 3-5 cycles away. Right now the "swing" voter is the pissed off male, aged 18-49, and he ain't voting for a woman, not in this climate anyway.

If I'm the Dems, I can't institute a policy that says if you fail a basic knowledge test you can't vote. But I think what might be constitutional is to institute a basic knowledge test where you get paid if you pass.
She was on the 2020 ticket that won. She could have been the president already.
Yes. We all know this.
My point is there will be a reaction to this outcome, and no female candidate will make it out of the primaries for a generation.
I'm not saying it's as it should be, but the last two female presidential candidates lost to Trump in embarrassing fashion. It's not a hot take to suggest we won't see a third any time soon.
We can talk about one campaign vs the other, but many are missing the key ingredient to all of this: conflict in this world is changing rapidly and misinformation through social media is way more powerful than many care to admit.
The GOP is backed by arguably the largest misinformation campaign the world has seen, with Elon Musk purchasing Twitter and making it even stronger in the past year. It's crazy how powerful this warfare is and really the biggest reason why Trump won.
Is it really the reason? I know misinformation is a huge problem but is the average person really that easy to dupe? Or is it simply that everyone knows trump is a terrible human being, rapist, criminal, narcissist and they simply do not care.
They whatabout the other side and vote for their team regardless. And, not all, but a large percentage of Americans are simply racist, misogynist and/or religious. A wonderful combination of human traits.
This election followed the trend of every other election in major democracies in the last year or two - the incumbent getting their ass kicked.
Quote:
The reason I make these assertions is that the economic and geopolitical conditions of the past year or two have created arguably the most hostile environment in history for incumbent parties and politicians across the developed world.
From America’s Democrats to Britain’s Tories, Emmanuel’s Macron’s Ensemble coalition to Japan’s Liberal Democrats, even to Narendra Modi’s erstwhile dominant BJP, governing parties and leaders have undergone an unprecedented series of reversals this year.
The incumbents in every single one of the 10 major countries that have been tracked by the ParlGov global research project and held national elections in 2024 were given a kicking by voters. This is the first time this has ever happened in almost 120 years of records.
Ultimately voters don’t distinguish between unpleasant things that their leaders and governments have direct control over, and those that are international phenomena resulting from supply-side disruptions caused by a global pandemic or the warmongering of an ageing autocrat halfway across the world.
