Just because Lundell plays on the third line now doesn't mean he's a third liner.

Given additional ice and being moved up brought Lundell to a PPG. Now, he's eventually get less ice time as players return, or maybe not?

But he showed what he can do with additional ice time.

Necas was apparently available in the Tkachuk trade. Flames wanted the sure thing in Huberdeau so chose the Florida offer.

Why are we discussing Lundell he was never available. Florida has a big package ready for him right away.

Cozens is getting the real 5v5 minutes and special teams and has 3 points.

Necas was available for the taking publicly and no one wanted to trade for him, so he got a bridge deal. 25-year-olds typically don't get a bridge deal taking them to FA.

If he was such a hot commodity certainly a team would have paid the price for him.

It's early days in this rebuild/retool.

The majority of players were traded last 2 years. A couple more will be moved in the next 1-2 years. Let the drafts happen in next 2 years. If a very good young player becomes available (that's somewhat proven) - be ready to throw darts. But don't upset the apple cart in the meantime.

Yep
We've committed to a rebuild and it should take time. many of the youngsters who are here now wont be when this team is finally relevant. This is off to a good start, so lets just stay the course

Well, when the next Kirby Dach or Alex Newhook are available it's time to scrap the plan.

We don't even have to make our 1st pick in the rebuild, just start trading 1st's away for boat anchors.

Or we could trade Klapka and a 3rd for wright or rasmus for cozens and a 1st or a high end prospect

I’d prefer to use Rasmus to get Cozens and keep our picks.

Not sure why we are talking about as none of this is happening

Don’t be the smartest man in the room, the path forward to me is clear. Draft and develop for the next few seasons. Yes we can make some trades for players but we don’t need to take a massive risk on a 7 million/year contract to a player who may not work out. Yes it could work out, but it also may not.

We do not need to take that risk right now. When the team is further along maybe, but right now don’t potentially sewer the rebuild just as it begins.

Draft picks might not work out either...you have to trust pro scouts

And if the Flames traded Hamilton for Lindholm 1 for 1 that would have been seen as a bad trade at the time.
Hamilton was much younger and a long term contract was not covering scary years.

Correct, but the Flames wanted to continue contending.

Nevas and futures would not have accomplished that.

And the GM we had already had one foot out the door and wouldn't be around to see the peak returns of a Necas deal. He wanted instant results to put a cherry on top of his resume before bolting.

Wear a comically oversized cowboy hat.

I really do feel like you can win a cup paying everyone fairly. As in a 5 million dollar player performing as a 5 million dollar player. However its really hard to win if you have 10 million dollar players performing like 5 million dollar players.

So you can win with fair paying players, but its hard to win when overpaying players. For that reason I am much more risk adverse for taking struggling players on high long term salaries. Yes it could work out, but we dont need it to. If it doesnt work out its really hard to recover.

I really believe it's important to keep our firsts for the next 2 years, no matter what- and add more, if possible. Make those picks, Conny!

Let's please finish bottom-5 in those 2 years, as well.
