Scared is too soft a word, I'm terrified.
Ya, I feel ya. Not sure how to manage this new world but people like us are just going to have to find a way through it on our own. It sucks, but you can't change people. I'm sure the Trump supporters are laughing their asses off because they lack any form of empathy and really only care about themselves. Maybe one day Karma will get them, but I doubt it. The worst people seem to have the best outcomes. It's like there is a cosmic reward for being an #######.

I think if the first Trump presidency did not have a catastrophic on your life there is no reason to be terrified.

The problem is, "here" is quickly becoming "there". This just emboldens our politicians to tell them they are on the right path. Make no mistake, this is going to have a drastic effect on politics in Canada, and not in a good way. Hell, I already feel less safe healthwise knowing we will have more and more unvaccinated plague rats carrying all manner of preventable disease around thanks to our politicians following the idiocracy of America. I think for some, there are very legitimate reason to be concerned for our safety and future.

Already what I plan to do here and everywhere else. I plan to cut all politics out of my life. It's the only thing I can do.

https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2024...polls-2024-dg/

Fewer old people voted for Trump, more young people voted for him. More Latino men voted for Trump.

Black people overwhelmingly vote D no matter the candidate.

Well, I think if you live in Ukraine, and are currently not a Russian soldier, you should be terrified.

Not what I was hoping for, hopefully the Dems can do some reflection and come out more appealing in 4 years. Anything we can do to get these parties to move more center will be an improvement.

Negatives for me off the cuff:
Potential cut off of Ukraine
Tariffs and a global slow down (honestly if we could hop into the protectionist bubble this could be a Canada positive.
Abortion rights
NATO policy
Corporate policy and increase in class gap

Positives off the cuff:
Potential RFK health movement and FDA review (could be bad but America's food is a nightmare)
End social security taxation
Lower corporate tax rate for companies that produce locally
Shrink federal government

Whether any of these things happen is anyone's guess, just trying to look at things black and white as there's nothing being upset will do.

Results as shown above, despite the results of yesterday now might be a good time to turn down the apocalyptic fear mongering?

So it's not going to be as easy as all that, there's plenty Trump can do on his own.
Problem is, he'll probably try to do stuff (via executive order) that he's supposedly not allowed to do. But because he owns the Supreme Court, he'll probably be allowed to do them.

Definitely going to be interesting to see how Trump governs without all the legal challenges he faced last time around. The impeachments, Russia-probe, etc etc won't be duplicated with no fight left in the Democrats.

Democrats will spend at least two years figuring out who they are and why it's broken. Big leadership change in the Democratic Party, obviously overdue.

One good thing is I finally deactivated my Twitter account this morning. It was always going to happen, but with the race over all the interesting talking heads still on the platfrom I enjoyed are just musing about election results, which gets boring fast. Also, the chud who owns the platform will be even more of an insufferable, bloviated goblin now that he's going to be deep in White House business and the platform will ramp up that rhetoric to 5000 mph. Like I said earlier, vote with your money and attention, which can apply to anyone giving and receiving.

Now is a good a time as any for less social media going foward. Bluesky will still stay in the orbit occasionally, although Reddit is too hard to quit

Not sure why Democrats insist on running with illegal immigration hanging around their necks, it's been their biggest issue for decades.

Oh I don't think so. They just won the election. The changes haven't even started yet. Those are the things to really fear.

I keep thinking about that original Sean Spicer press conference after Trump's first inauguration: a propaganda session of forceful lies about something as inconsequential as crowd size. If Americans have trouble knowing what is true now, they will be even more lost - and more easily persuaded to accept more horrible things - very soon.

This is basically a cancer than has just shown itself nonresponsive to treatment, but next year is when it will really start to metastasis. Democracy, decency, truth, rule of law, and relationships with allies are allowing to be casualties. And it will happen fast.

Canadians should start thinking about what they can do to protect their and this country's interests from this influence now. We are basically going to be a lonely Nordic country sandwiched between two Russias as I see it.
