You may be on to something here. Seniors blocking government from getting rid of standard time. Gives them 5 months where eating out at 4:30 / 5pm seems less ridiculous because it’s dark out.

It's no good here in Chicagoland, given we are close to the border of Eastern time. Sunset here today is 4:41pm, close to 1/2 earlier than in Calgary, which is over 1200km north. Sunrise ay 6:00am so not particularly good split. Even longest day in summer it's dark at 8:30pm. Mavi wouldn't like it.

Already gets dark early enough in daylight time for some of our late season camping trips. Don't really want it dark at 6:30 in mid/late September. Sunrise at 4am in peak summer hours would also be wasted (in full standard time).
Winter sucks either way, but would rather a bit of extra light in the afternoon. I'm not in Calgary, but sunsets at 4:30 here are still awful.

For me,
Current System > Permanent Daylight time >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Permanent standard time.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Spring forward 30 minutes next year and stop the annual time changes.

You would need the whole planet to agree or there would be a lot of Newfoundlands

I prefer a minute a day adjustment for the sixty days preceding November and a minute a day for the sixty days following the beginning of March.
Make it a nice fade.

I’d prefer we alter the axis of the earth to put Calgary in a better position relative to the sun. If we were closer to the equator, none of this would be an issue. Sunrise and sunset at 7am/7pm 365 days a year is where it’s at.

We need to build something to block out the sun entirely and thus live our lives in perpetual darkness! Then it shall be the time of the Mole People!!

This is the sort of out-of-the-box paradigm that generates real value for stakeholders.

I like where your head is at but I'd push to add daylight savings time to that. An 8pm sunset allows for more after work daylight for extra curriculars.

BOOOOOOOOOOO! to that.
constantly update the earth's axis so that we have our current 16 hours of sunlight in the summer, but still 12 hours in the winter.

What we really need to do is encompass the Earth within a Dyson Sphere. Yes...thats the ticket!
