Excited for this Panthers/Stars game. Sasha Barkov gets to play an NHL game in his home town of Tampere. That's gotta feel special.

Jere Lehtinen and Teppo Numminen with the ceremonial faceoff puck drop. Tons of energy hearing Finland sing their national anthem...
Then 28 seconds in the Panthers score on Oettinger who has been lights out so far. Rodrigues with the tip from Ekblad and BARKOV!

Wow.
Turnover and a bit of an odd-man rush for the Panthers, and Barkov scores as the late man coming down the middle. Helluva shot too.

Oh Bob...classic. An own goal as Seguin throws it towards the front of the net and Bobrovsky literally kicks it off the inside of his leg into his own net. Nobody near him either. 2-1 Panthers.
Love the guy, but he will occasionally make a play like that and you just scratch your head.

Outside of Flames games, this league is so boring. None of these games are remotely interesting.

Now, Lundell scores on the powerplay by tipping an Ekblad point shot. The Finns are having a helluva game today! 3-1 Panthers.

I know it's still early, but god bless the Florida Panthers... yeah we gave them Tkachuk and Benny, but not only did they save us an Oilers cup, they are absolutely knocking it out of the park early and really bringing down my fear about that horrible Treliving brain cramp Monahan trade costing us a top ten pick. Sitting 2nd in the league after today and looking likely to send the Habs a nice pick in the 25-32 range which is still more than they deserve. Keep it up boys

After trading goals in the 2nd, the Panthers score again in the 3rd to go up 5-2. Mackie Samoskevich with a beautiful shot on the rush after a nice play in the defensive zone to take the puck the other way. Niko Mikkola with an assist to become the 3rd Finn on Florida to put up points today in their home country, led by Barkov with a 3 point day.

Reinhart scores on a beautiful pass by Barkov, to put up Barkov's 4th point of the day! What a day for the hometown kid!

Ohhhh they're playing in Finland. Was wondering why they're playing so early. A bit weird to have a Finland game right now, no?

I don't even know what those conditions are lol but I believe if the Flames were to actually finish bottom 10, the Flames keep the pick, no? I'm probably wrong...

Sorta. They did announce this special global series last year for the games between the Panthers and Stars, the two teams with the most Finnish players, especially that of a star caliber variety: Barkov, Hintz, Heiskenan, Lundell, Luostarinen, Mikkola, Lindell. Sort of a showcase event.

Final tally for Finnish players playing in Finland today:
Barkov: 4 points (1G 3A)
Lindell: 2 points (1G 1A)
Lundell: 1 point (1G)
Mikkola: 1 point (1A)
total of 8 points from Finnish players. Surprisingly, Hintz and Heiskenan held off the score sheet despite the Stars scoring 4 goals.
They play again tomorrow!

This is a game the Sabres need to win if they want to at all be contending for a playoff spot.
I expect the Isles will magically find their offence and win in convincing fashion.

Basically if the Panthers make the playoffs it'll be OKish.
If the Panthers are a playoff team, the flames could still lose a decent pick if they finish with pick 11-16. But not as catastrophic as if the Panthers and flames are both really bad - we could be giving up a franchise player, as good as #2 overall.
Bottom line is that Treliving got absolutely fleeced and put in some dangerous conditions that could have moved it from fleecing to Gilmour level once in a generation robbery.
Thankfully if the Panthers are decent much fewer worries and we are looking good there.

Although Barzal is out. Not that he has been great so far this season, but the Islanders are probably still better with him.

The Jets continue their early season rampage with a 6-2 smashing over the BJs.

Good call, the Islanders won 4-3 in regulation time. The Sabres made a valiant effort to tie the game in the third period when they were down 4-2, but, came up short. There were lots of shots in this game, 36-35 in favour of the Islanders.

Not sure how I didn't know Barkov was from Finland. With the last name I had assumed he was Russian.
