I know many were clamoring for Philp and the injection of youth he will provide. He wasn't drafted but would be from the Mathews, Tkachuk, Fox, etc draft class. he's a about a year younger than McDavid and 3 years older than Broberg and Holloway, but for sure he will drop the average age
Caggiula is, naturally, over 30

With this injury, and Mavi being one of the youngest oilers, the average age goes up!
TSN reporting that as the Oilers have been carrying 12 roster forwards (I don’t know and I don’t care enough to confirm if true or not), they will need to call up from shelbyville south.
Two things amuse me about this.
1) if they don’t LTIR Mavi, they only have $53k under the cap or will have to pay kane’s cap space to the call up. This affects the multi million contract that we have been told is coming in at the deadline. Placing Mavi on LTIR obviously presents a number of problems including automatically missing a number of games. Maybe the oilers can paper up and paper down players to spend the $53k, but think about that player. They are on and off the nhl salary, basically breaking the spirit of calling players up on two way contracts. Not a great look for the organization.
2) they can ignore having 11 forwards and selectively double shift say…pissy. Or try to roll with 4 lines and spread ice time…except that this is a team of wrinklies and injuries are sure to follow such an old team.
I did read that Mavi has flown in his own medical team to Edmonton who will work with the Oilers medical team.

Connor McDavid is going to pull an Eichel.
Conflicting medical assessments will create untenable friction that will erupt in a rancorous trade demand.
You read it here first.

Holloway now up to 4 goals and another point for Broberg (8).
But that 2nd and 3rd is gonna bring some stud at the deadline that puts them over the top…

he has a bad case of being 43rd in league scoring and needing an excuse

But they will be totally fine next year with Drai and Bouchard's extension on the books

This is going to be glorious. The Oilers are about to show that
A) Drai can’t carry the team
B) the team without McDavid is garbage
So McDavid is going to watch from the sidelines and think about how he is the team. I imagine this will make him strongly consider not re-signing as the team is bad, won’t get better on the short/medium term and needs him to compete for even a playoff spot. Why sign if you can go to an already complete team and just add more to it.

In the Lowe days he gave you some home brew mix of magic elixir.
McDavid for his own reasons and a systematic history of the Oilers organization downplaying injuries to players, misdiagnosis, and downright negligence regarding player health and well being.
McDavid had enough exposure to the Oilers medical crew earlier in his career when he was getting mysteriously sick multiple times a year while under their care, and wisely now has his own staff to call the shots.
He's 20 months from massive payday, able to move somewhere and enjoy life better for these 8 months of a hockey season and he's not going to let the Oilers disrupt him from that in any way, medically or otherwise.

Were they not clamoring about their 10 30 goal scorers they were going to have this year? I think they may be hard pressed to get 2 this year.

Ever notice how the annual West Edmonton Mall team autograph event seems to cast a curse on McDavid and the Oilers? He always contracts some communicable disease after close contact with the unwashed riff raff fans. Maybe this year it’s scurvy or rickets or leprosy and his foot just fell off.

I'm actually hoping this goes the other way to most. Mcavi on IR is addition by subtraction, the oilers string together some wins, starting the 'we don't need him' comments leading to a trade/non signing down the road, as pissy pulls a coup, becomes the voice in the room.
Of course that leads to even more internal destruction and the team fallls of a cliff in the standings for another 10 years.

Mavi can't be LTIR. If you are under the cap you won't receive any cap relief for injured players. So they either spread his 30 minutes a night around the supporting cast that they don't trust to play 5 minutes a night, or they have to call up. The longer they keep someone up, the less cap money they will have to play with. Which means more staples articles about how it's actually 4D chess for the oilers to NOT have extra cap space at the deadline.

Broberg is the nonsensical one here. Mind blowing that the Oilers are searching for D help (no kidding) that was needed even before not matching. It will be something to see this kid turn into a solid top 4 player over the next year or so while the Oilers remain without the necessary pieces to win a cup.

...and they traded veteran Ceci while replacing him with a league minimum player and thought they wouldn't miss a beat.
