Legislation will be introduced preserving choice for minors, supporting student success and well-being in schools by strengthening ties between parents and their child’s education, and protecting fairness and safety in sport by ensuring biologically born women and girls have the opportunity to compete in biological female-only categories.
How much more Orwellian can you get than that? We are preserving your right to choose by removing your right to choose. Do you Conservatives just enjoy having your leaders stare into your eyes and lie to you? I don't get it. Why do you want a leader this dishonest? Is it that tax break....she lied to you about? Are you starting to get it yet? Baffling.

The Lawyer example is one of the reasons this is being pushed in Alberta now.
In or around 2020, the Law Society of Alberta, introduced a mandatory lesson for all lawyers - Indigenous Cultural Competency Education - which was essentially a required professional development course.
The course itself was essentially a history of indigenous culture in Alberta, and Canada, and some of the hardships suffered today, with historical context, and how it relates to the law and legal professional.
50 lawyers signed a petition calling it "political indoctrination" and "wokeness". This lead to a special meeting where all lawyers could vote on whether it be maintained.
11,000 lawyers in Alberta
3,400 voted in 2023
864 voted for removal
2,600 voted for keeping it.
This chuffed a minority of lawyers, and as you know, lawyers like to litigate.
I wouldnt be surprised if this issue was in the ear of the Premier.
Yeah, and because they are ultra focused on fairness, the LSA had to give equal time in the meeting to the small minority of loudmouths protesting a factual educational requirement. One which takes maybe an hour of on-line time (think Respect in Sports requirements). So the 50 against the program were all there to speak.
There was nothing requiring endorsement, limiting speech, or anything like that.

The Breakdown put out a podcast episode called "The Skybox Network Exposed" last night. They are very clear that they are not journalists, and only provide well researched commentary. They've also offered to share all their research with any reporters who care to investigate further.
They're available through multiple avenues (podcast, Twitter, Patreon, etc.) but for ease of linking, here's the YouTube.

Proposed changes to the Alberta Bill of Rights would allow a worker to take a provincial employer to court if the employee is subject to a vaccination requirement.
Hell bent on bringing us back in to the days before vaccines. I know Conservatives are afraid of change and all, but come the #### on.
Quote:
If passed, Bill 24 would protect a person from being coerced into receiving medical care, treatment or a procedure — but not if "that individual is likely to cause substantial harm to themselves or others," a briefing document on the bill says.
Vaccination would be an exception, according to officials. If the bill passes as written, no one could force a person to be vaccinated to prevent harm to themselves or others.
LOL, so they make sure they have a carve out for forced drug treatment.
Quote:
Smith said the Alberta government will not mandate employees to receive any medical treatments they don't want to take.
Such requirements are already in place. The communicable disease regulation under Alberta's Public Health Act, for example, requires all daycare staff and anyone having face-to-face contact with patients in health facilities to be immunized against rubella.
I presume parents will also not be able to ask if their childcare spaces include vaccinated workers? So, like Rubella roulette? Do people not understand that there are those who can't receive vaccines, and depend on those around them for protection? Or do they just not give a #### because they are awful horrible humans?
Quote:
The bill also proposes to add the "right to acquire, keep and use firearms in accordance with the law" to the Bill of Rights. Smith said it's to push back against what she says is tightening federal government gun control measures increasingly targeting legal gun owners and users.
"We're sending a message to Ottawa that Alberta will not forfeit these rights," Smith said.
Uh, she knows "in accordance with the law" means that the feds can still make laws and some of those could cause the rights to be forfeited? Like, how ####ing dumb are the lawyers writing this thing?
Idiots, every last one of them.

Well the nurses are pretty much guaranteed to strike here after they vote down the new “offer” (if you can call it that) coming up on Friday.
Alberta nurses are behind BC / Sask on pay (and other provinces, and other benefits), and have fallen behind inflation to the tune of ~18% since their last contract. They’re being offered something that effectively strips them of all educational or other benefits, an RRSP match reduction, and a small increase of like 2-4% (still behind inflation). Meanwhile, there’s a hiring freeze for Alberta nurses while separately there’s job postings for travel Nurses to the tune of $125/hr. The nursing situation in this province is super ####ed.
So anyways, that will be rejected and then the government will tell them they’re done negotiating and there will be an illegal strike. Good times. This happened in Sask with teachers I believe and then the government folded because, well, they have to.

The Alberta advantage is Nurses can't encumbered with too much income

Alberta already has, arguably, the most employer-friendly minimum standards among the provinces;
Arguably? Good one Cappy, I like it.

but what would happen if a company, for example, required vaccination?
would this be similar to the already laughable prohibition of terminating someone on a job protected leave?
would the government legislate reinstatement?
a fine?
or would the company just not be able to claim termination for cause or any other defence that would allow the employer to not pay severance
Arbitrators would probably still use the precautionary principle when determining if a vaccine policy is valid. Basically if it is proven that the vaccine is effective in removing a workplace hazard the policy typically gets deemed to be ok. That’s why most workplaces removed their policies during the later waves of COVID where the vaccines were proven to be far less effective.
Personally I don’t think this government will ever legislate reinstatement because the people who pull their strings wouldn’t be fans.

Very long but very in-depth. Worth a watch. This video connects all of the dots of the conflicts of interest and money trails leading back to UCP.
tldw; It breaks down all of the connections between the people in the skybox photo detailing contracts given back to pandemic mask and Tylenol purchases all the way up to the upcoming confidence vote and all of the corruption in between along with all of the receipts. No bs just facts that can be proven. The rabbit hole goes deep.
Edit: I blame google workspace for blocking the video I obviously double posted only a few posts back. What an idiot.

Sask isn’t any better nor are the territories, but yes arguable is a stretch.
That’s my thought on this. This government is not in the business of protecting employees. Never has been. I don’t see what these people think the government is going to do.
I talked to hundreds of antivaxers during Covid who were losing their jobs over vaccine mandates. They all thought the Cons were going to fight for their jobs back. Wasn’t going to happen.

Mentioned it in another thread but they do have the edge in minimum wage so they’re at least a little better in some ways.

Generally people underestimate how few rights they actually have in their workplaces.

Have you met 80% of our stupid province? Bunch of conservative dolts that go with blue no matter what lie or stupid thing is said. We are a dolt province full of dolts.

Too bad it won't mean anything in the end. Doesn't matter how corrupt the UCP is, their voters just point at Trudeau and go with "both sides yada yada"

Change takes time unfortunately.
I don’t really think it’s helpful to write everyone in the province off when the numbers show that more and more Albertans are shifting away from the always vote conservative mentality.
People can change, I can remember a time when posters like yourself and fuzz didn’t really care much for a lot of my views that I was sharing and were at times quite vocal about it but for some reason nowadays we don’t seem so far apart. I don’t think it’s because I radically shifted my views and it certainly wasn’t the result of me calling you stupid until you came around.
When the UCP loses their favourite red herring in the next federal election I think a lot of their supporters are going to be scrutinizing them a lot more.
