What about Oliver Kapenen back? A RH centre who is on the team to start the season, but is barely seeing any time. Suspect usage, and they look like they are not leaning into his strengths at all. He projects as an all-around third line centre with a wicked shot. 2nd rounder three years ago.

Don’t think Conroy is interested in trading his 24 year old 6’8 Czech mutant. Skill and Size are desired by 32 teams. He checks a lot of boxes. I’d love to see him play beside popsicle, Klapka skates so well for his size. Klapka IMO is under utilized currently but he’s still learning to be an everyday player.

I don't think hes a top 50 prospect. Probably between 50-100.
And yeah they don't have to, no team does, but they should feel more motivated then almost any team to start making some big steps.
Theyve missed playoffs for 8 years, they have big holes on the backend, and a wealth of young centers.

If last year tought is anything, its teams do not give up their top prospects.
The Flames didn’t get Lerkermaki for Lindholm, the Flames didn’t get Stankoven/Bouque for Tanev, the Flames didn’t get Dorofeyev for Hanifin, the Flames didn’t get Mercer for Markstrom.
The Flames did get Bzrutevich but, I believe, that had to do, in part, that Bzrutevich let it be known he wasn’t happy with the Canucks not giving him a look he believed he deserved in camp nor did he see a path for himself there.

Generally agreed - although Andersson, certainly if traded this year, would be the best player we've traded. I don't think that changes much though, I doubt Utah gives up Iginla, I doubt anyone gives up a prospect in that realm.
Ultimately, that's fine. There's a real tendency to want to remove risk by acquiring existing prospects in fan discussion, but you also remove upside when you do that. For example, all the Mercer talk with Markstrom just didn't really do it for me. I'd sooner take a pick (and yeah, a pick + Bahl looks great now), because while Mercer is good the upside of finding a player a tier above what Mercer would be considered is the goal. Mercer is a mid-tier player, and yeah it's good to have those guys but the Flames really need to hit some home runs. They need superstars.

Very fair, but I still like Kapanen as an NHL ready RH/C prospect, that's a little buried behind higher draft pedigree. Perhaps Montreal just wants someone to fill the soda machine for the players, or a slightly used washing machine.

I guess most of you are putting him as 1 or 2 in their system, where I don't.
Edvinsson
ASP
Cossa
Kasper
I don't think it's crazy to ask for a teams 3rd or 4th best prospect if we're giving them 2 years of rasmus at 27 years old, especially given the season he's having so far.
I'd be okay with Kasper instead. Would still be a great trade for the flames.

Well, 3rd or 4th best prospect for a team that’s been out of the playoffs for 8 straight years is, arguably, better than the first or second best prospect on a lot of teams.
I can’t claim to know Daniekson all that well but he seems to be discussed in a very high regard. Typically, those guys at that age don’t get moved unless it’s for a player of equivalent age, control, and potential. If Rasmus Anderson was 22-24 years old, then it’s probably a discussion.

True, but that's one of the reasons you build the stable, so you have capital available to trade, to fill the inevitable holes.

Yeah forsure and if it was a sanjose or blackhawks I'd say no way. But they're 8 years out of playoffs already, larkin is 28 and they don't have any legit top 4 vet. Rasmus fills a huge hole for them and lines up with their compete window, which should be opening for them.

Sure. It’s not inconceivable, I suppose but I also don’t see how Anderson fits in Detroit.
Sieder is their 1D and is a RHS. Their second best prospect after Edvinsson, according to Scott Wheeler, is another RHS D, Sandin-Pelleka.
In the other hand Larkin is their 1C, Kasper ranked as their third best prospect and Danielson their fourth.
In other words, they look to be pretty balanced. Unless they’re willing to block Sandin-Pelleka from a top 4 spot. I would have to think if Detroit were to make that deal, almost certainly plan would be to extend Anderson. Doubt, very much, they move Danielson for a year and a half of Anderson, or a little more.
Or, maybe the Wings aren’t that high on Danielson and are fine to move him for two-ish seasons of Anderson while Sandin-Pellika bakes in the oven.

Maybe.
Seems to me Fowler or Provorov could be had for less. And as I mentioned above, Sandin-Pellika is on the way.
Don’t get me wrong though, if the Flames could make this trade, it certainly would be interesting. That said, I’m in the camp of the Flsmes extending Anderson, unless he wants to move on.

Dreger, of all people, seems to be insinuating a Fabbro for Dvorak trade.

Klapka is not a NHL player. Now we pissed off Coronato by sending him down.
Honzek and Klapka belong in the minors. Honzek because he needs to play.

His agent has been retweeting a few X posts criticizing the Flames sending him down.
People are using that to correlate that Coronato is pissed off.

His agent is retweeting stuff that sending him down was a stupid move.
Can’t say I disagree. We are rebuilding not trying to make the playoffs.

I believe it’s more the fact that Matthew is strictly down because of numbers and contracts rather than performance, and I’d probably agree.
We knew this would happen when Honzek and Klapka made it out of camp, I’d be more surprised if he wasn’t mad, because that would mean he doesn’t care. He still played hard today for the wranglers, looks dangerous every shift.
No imminent trades, Flames have cooled a bit more back to reality from their hot start but the feeling is they’ve been in every game and that’s pretty true. Not a lot of room for Coronato sadly, it’s going to take a man injury or trade to get him with the club full time, sadly he’s the only 2 way contract fodder.

Hopefully it's his agent he's pissed off at and he's telling him to STFU.

Pelletier has gone down and performed and if he keeps it up will be back up on the team.
Coronato needs to do the same.
Kerins is showing he may deserve a call in the near future.

I personally thought Honzek would go down and Coronato would have stayed up.
Of course Coronato is not happy about being sent down, but that is what you want. Zary was apparently pretty angry about being sent down last season and he came back with a vengeance.

An agent wouldn’t do something like that without the blessing of his client
