The Flames will never deliberately tank but I think Conroy did as good of a job stripping away talent on the roster for youth and futures. Moving Markstrom for Bahl and a 1st and Mangiapane for a 2nd and only bringing in guys on 1-2 year deals. They are not spending to the cap now so trying to force their way into the playoffs so they have incredible flexibility moving forward.
End of the day this team will want to absolutely have a team they think can make the playoffs and compete in year one of Scotia Place so I am not convinced we see further attempts to tank. I just think they would be wise to hold off for 2 seasons before they really move some chips in the middle. I still hope they cash their last big chip in Andersson and sell high and deal him this deadline at 50% retained to the highest bidder.
End of the day though if the Flames have a truly shocking season and sit firmly in a playoff spot come the deadline or even New Year I see Conroy using the assets he has in terms of picks, cap space and maybe a prospect who doesn’t fit to land a piece that will make this team better but not just a rental but a long term player that fits the age range.

I hope no 1st is traded. I want them to build through the draft with plenty of patience.

Oh, okay. I guess there might not be a reason for a trade there then.

Why did you trade for Byram?
Byram has the talent to be a top D but needs better deployment.

BUF knew they couldn’t fit in Middlestadt long-term. COL were desperate for a #2 C. And they made the best offer. BUF didn’t reach out to get Byram. They just took the best offer for a player they had to move on from.

I could maybe be convinced that if someone on par with a Jack Eichel is on the market, then get a seat at the table. That's an organizational shifting trade. That's not what Pinto, that's not what any of these rumoured names are.
|
I don’t know if I would trade a first for him. But I think the Flames are missing at least two long term centres. So I think you have to look at different routes to fix that

That makes sense.
I wonder if Byram we re-sign, as he is a RFA?

As exciting as the start has been, I don't see Conroy being impatient and spending a 1st any time soon. Team is one down streak from being sellers at this point.

We’ll see how it goes. Wolf has proven himself to be a star player very quickly at every level he plays and he could be doing that in NHL right now as well. Even the worst teams can be floated out of the bottom 10 in the league with quality goaltending.

Very rare, indeed. For ANY team.

Personally not a fan, but Krebs's name is definitely part of this. Sounds like the player wants out of Buffalo more than the Flames we're hot in pursuit.
I'm told the Flames have higher interest in another couple forwards, Dach rumored to be someone the they are keeping an eye on.
With that said Craig is in absolutely no rush here, in fact he's pretty content with what we have though he knows long term the Flames are unbelievable thin at "C" with very little RHS.

I mean they have to give the rest of the league a shot

Ugggh. I don’t even view Krebs as a bonafide NHL caliber player. Hope we don’t do anything on that front.

Krebs wouldn't be the worst if only because he shouldn't cost more than a 3rd and has shown flashes of talent at times.
Just has been stuck behind Thompson, Mittelstadt, Cozens and now McLeod at times.
But I think you could get similar outcomes just from moving Zary to center TBH

Pelletier + 4th for Krebs.
I’d be into something like that.

Yeah. The cost to acquire Krebs would likely be low.
I do wonder why they are hesitant to try Zary at center for a long period of time. My best guess would be that he is playing really well at wing and the team is winning so they don’t want to upset the momentum for him and team. Maybe if the team started to struggle, they might give him a look at center.

Dach
Cozens
Pinto
I'd be curious if Buffalo would do both Krebs and Cozens for a 1st and Pelletier? NJ 1st and Pelts for those two. Could work. Maybe. I don't know
I really worry about making deals with the Habs , that guy seems have the Flames number.

Cozens is useless. He had one good year. He’s not what you want to build around.
Pinto and Dach for late round picks?

Cozens will cost a fortune. This isn't even scratching the surface of the actual price it would take to acquire him.

Why? Because he put up 67 points once and has regressed?
Thompson and Tuch had seasons they won’t have again either during that year.
Cozens is a 45-50 point center.
