I've dealt with KalTire many times without issue. For tire purchases, warranty replacements, and swaps. No issues at all.

I actually attract great customer service, even when things go wrong, because I always treat people in customer service roles well and err on the side of being understanding and pleasant, knowing mistakes happen and many things are out of their control. I’ve worked retail, so I know what the worst of humanity looks like, pretty easy to just be a decent person instead.

Just curious, how much do the shops charge for tire storage?

This is the first time I've had an issue with them. Well I guess second, my car is staggered and I'm buying the same sized tires all around so that means it's a 1/2 stretch on the rear tires.

The NE KalTire told me they wouldn't do that for me at all when it was them that suggested the stretch in the first place when I got my current tires lol!

Not really an issue I guess, just mildly annoying. The one on 68th (whom I've also dealt with in the past with no problems) is the one that seems to have lost my rims.

Last year I paid $120 per swap with Kal Tire, so $240 a year for storage.

I guess that's $20 a month, not bad if it makes a big difference for a person.

They found my rims.. the work order had self-deleted after 10 days so that was the reason they didn't have a work order he said. But he couldn't explain why it'd gone 10 days without any work done on it.

Whatever, getting a bit of a discount over it and they'll swap the new rims on on the weekend just in time for whatever comes.

Years ago my wife had bought a used Civic and we went to the Honda dealer for winter tires and rims. When I went to pick up the car they had mounted the winter tires on the summer rims that were on the car, and put the summer tires and new steel rims in the car. As a guy who did tires for years, I was just kinda dumbfounded someone could think that was the intention.

One year at Costco they'd put the new winters on my rims but they'd mounted one of the rear wider rims on the front of the car.. but only on the passenger side! The tire sticking out noticeably from the fender was obvious just walking up to the car, though I guess I'm lucky it was parked in such a way that I approached it from that side.

Now I always just do a sanity walkaround anytime anyone has my car.

Funny though when I went back in to let them know, they fixed it but said I can't come back as they don't support staggered fitments.

Feck it; I called and got in a bit early to have my winters fitted so I can get Calgary Rim Repair to work on refinishing my summer rims.

Before - 275/40R22 Pirelli Scorpion Verde PNCS

And after - 255/55R20 Pirelli Scorpion Winter PNCS

The OK Tire on 17th SW has never, ahem, steered me wrong. They charge under 90 for a swap on rims and will do a check of the brakes, filters, lights, etc. I believe tire storage there is a similar price. I noticed Quinn’s repair in Spruce Cliff has a sign out front saying they do tire swaps. Never been there but tempted to try them as they are a local shop.

Got the Alpins on Friday. These are the quietest winter tires I have ever had.

Quinn's is good. Tire swap (on rims) is free with an oil change, as they do an inspection which involves taking the wheels off anyways. So I just time my oil changes for this time of year

Lol Kal Tire should maybe stop too, when I went on Saturday to get my car they were going to do the rims swap for me for free as part of the inconvenience of losing my rims and work order for a while..

Which they did, except they did it wrong.. Good thing I always look now since they'd put one of the wider rims on the front.. I mean the rear right looked like one of those small spares it was so far inside the wheel well and the front left was sticking way past the fender!

Nice waste of a few hours

I guess this is an advertisement for doing it yourself...

I've had them for 4 years, best winter tires for Calgary imo. Good on snow and ice but handle and behave like normal tires on cold dry pavement.

Driving on brand new studded tires sounds like muffled popcorn or boiling water. It didn't take long for the sound to quiet down a lot though.

But then I hear other vehicles driving down the street with huge road noise and I wonder if tire noise for studded tires isn't even remotely close to being similar from tire brand/tire model?

Studded tire noise is insane but you just get used to it sounding like that.

I think studded tires in Calgary (city limits) is a bit overkill
