Just saw the oilers lost this afternoon. It’s already a good day, regardless of the flames game result.

Even watching the second Duchene goal on NHL.com's neat little goal simulation you can see McDigin just kind of drifting along. Next time he throws a hissy I wonder if it'll involve a mirror.

Eberle just said on after hours he gave up social media about the time he was in Edmonton because of comments on there. Sounds about right for oilers fans.

Only a matter of time.
Another week of losing and they'll panic and run to the next former McDavid mentor or guy with a male genitalia word in his name. This cycle is in their DNA.

Holloway you can take or leave, he's okay. That's a nice goal but I don't think he'll be a big scorer. Broberg on the other hand is legit, and he's showing it. He was very good late in the playoffs for Edmonton and I can't believe they didn't match the offer sheet and make it work.

Holloway may never pop as a point producer, but he's exactly what the Oilers need. Speed, size and physicality. Good forechecker. Both those players created massive holes for them.

Agreed. I was a bit surprised they didn’t let Holloway go but then try to figure out how to match / keep Broberg.
I think losing Broberg is a bigger loss to the Oilers than people think.

It was reported before free agency that Holloway was seeking 1.2 and Broberg 1.8 million. Oilers thought they held the cards on the RFA's and could low ball them thinking everyone will take a payout to play with Mcdrai. So they went and resigned Perry and got Arvidsson and Skinner cause you can't have enough forwards. Then once they got offer sheeted the narrative switched to how these guys just wanted money and really didn't want to be there.

I agree with this and you can see it with the Oilers.
They had 10 hits through a 60 minute game. The people they lost over the summer, had speed and were always in on the forecheck. Kane being out long term ads to that.
this is a perimeter Oilers team that doesn't forecheck that well and the team overall looks a step behind other teams.
But they did bring in fairly soft skilled players, which is good for the teams playing the Oilers.
This team feels like it was built by a 10 year old with a copy of NHL 25 and a controller and somehow thinks he can stick handle through a team and carry the puck end to end.
It doesn't help the Oilers that teams seem to be doing a way better job of containing and frustrating McDavid who has been really inefficient, and last nights brutal giveaway and not give a crap back check showed that.
I mean we know My Dig In is going to get his points, he's going to get it going. But the Oilers more then anything are going to need to rely on Mcaboutme and Pissy then ever before and they'll end up playing 40 minutes a game.
I'm most interested in seeing if Skinner the sorta goalie is capable of playing 60 games this year.
Also watching games this year, I'm in shock that Nurse has managed to look worse this year then last year, and last year he was horrible.
If Nurse continues to be bad and looking at the rest of that blueline, the Oilers are in huge trouble.
I don't know how people in the media and in the Oilers fan base could look at that team, and say its a Stanley Cup Contender. Its a awful level of team and poorly built outside of McDavid and skatingurinetest, and you can't keep rolling the over play those two dice as they get older and get the same results.
But the hilarity is that deep down the Oilers know that this is the window, and they have no good young players who can come up and act as a cap reduction device, and they have been horrid at drafting, which means that them giving away their draft picks is I guess ok.
The Oilers might get a bit of a break in their schedule, their next 5 games are the Hurricanes, the Pens, the Wings, the Blue Jackets and the Preds. Until you look at things and the Oilers team that has trouble keeping it under 3 goals against per game are playing a Pens team thats scoring a lot, a Canes team that averaging 3 goals a game and a Blue Jackets team that scores more then 3 goals a game.
If the Oilers go 2 and 3 in the next 5, I expect panic. Conna screaming at his team mates on the bench to "Dig F'n in" A look on Pissy's face that will state "I now I signed for the money, but is it too early for a trade demand". Oilers press parasites wondering if its too early to talk coaching change. And Stuart cramming those hipster hats that he wears up Nurses a$$ after another defensively terrible game.

I think Broberg didn't want to be there. And honestly what he's done has surprised me, I had written BoingBoing off. But clearly once again the issue is clearly Edmonton's coaching and prospect development.

Yup, could have inked them both, for the cost of Skinner.
Just try and imagine how delightful this is going to look in 3 - 5 years!

Love that they didn't need a GM and in their hubris jumped at the chance to sign the corpses of Perry, Skinner & Henrique. The Oilers incompetence knows no bounds.

They didn't match because they went straight to McDavid and Draisaitl who determined that the insult bared by a young player getting paid was simply too much. Just like they went to them on July 1 when they told them to get expensive aging wingers.

Based on their off-season moves, their strategy is to eliminate all the players who possess these three traits.
