I agree with your sentiments.

But I strongly disagree that the NHL is the league to play in for a D+1 18 year old dman. He isn't coming over from Europe. There is a LOT of precedent to send him back down.

Not a single one of the top 5 vote getters for the Norris trophy this season played their D+1 season in the NHL.

Even Owen Power got sent back down to play his D+1 at NCAA.

NHLe for these players in their draft years:

Parekkh -> 38.5

Bouchard -> 34.4
Hughes -> 21.4
Fox -> 19.5
Makar -> 17.1

			People are getting a bit ahead of themselves. Let's wait and see how development camps go for Parekh before we try and make decisions for the organization. I think we'd all love to see him on the Flames fulltime. After reading that AHL rule though, it looks like it'll be a bit of a longshot. He's either ready right now for full time NHL duty or going back down.

Staying in college isn't the same as sending back down, they don't even have a contract, Makar, Hughes, Power and Fox stayed in college for various reasons, one of these is because they get to develop against older competition not kids in the CHL.

He projects to put on some size and he's totally motivated as his family has 2 brothers in hockey and this kid oozes potential with no limits In sight .

I don't know what it is anout him but there's a charisma and humility that reminds me of Paul Kariya . Paul was a leader . I'll never forget him getting knocked out cold by Steven's and coming back with the biggest F U moment ive ever witnessed in the NHL .

That's what this kids aura gives off to me . Count me out ....then watch.

Love this comparison to Kariya in terms of how he comes across. Kariya was my hockey idol, not only because he was asian and in my opinion, one of the best to ever play the game, but because of his humility. I like a guy who can go about his business and not have to shove it down people's face.

It's a huge testament to his parents and how they brought him up. Not saying it's every Asian and not saying it's not prevalent in other cultures, but there is a certain level of humility and grace that is a hallmark of how many Asians are raised

			I wouldn't be surprised if drafting Parekh was about choosing the human as well as the player. He definitely doesn't strike me as shy though, listening to him in interviews. I think about him and Conroy doing pre-draft interviews, it must have been pretty intense.

Honestly though, I love that he exudes confidence and seems like he wants the spotlight.

			Unless Parekh blows the doors off he has to go back down.

Foolish of the Flames to burn a year of his entry level deal on a nothing season. It will make it that much tougher to compete in a few years if/when they build the team back into a contender losing a year of team control.

Where do you find your NHLe stats? There’s a chart earlier in the thread that has Parekh’s at 35.

It’s hard to play defense in the NHL at 180 lbs. He may simply not be physically ready.

I just googled NHLe calculator and used the most recent one I could find, then calculated all the players in their draft year with the same calculator.

He may not be ready, and that's fine.

He may also be a unicorn.

			A spot will be open.

If he gives them no choice then he gives them no choice.

Brz is a year ahead and going pro, he could very well be the one to force their hand.

A talent for the point on the PP will be enticing for the team.
