So nvidia asked me to reseat my video card and darned if it seems to have fixed the issue. The black screen/100% fan hasn't happened in 2 weeks since and that's with quite a bit of gaming.

Just happened again.. I wish I had another PC to try the card in, but the problem is so intermittent feels like I'd have to run it in a different PC for weeks to eliminate the PC as the possible issue.

So should I avoid Intel if I'm building a new rig? or just specific Intel CPUs?

I was going to build around the 4070 Ti Super with a i7-14700k, but now I don't know.

The degradation issue should not be an issue anymore with the latest bios, though with a new generation of Intel processors being launched on the 24th you may want to wait a little to compare benchmarks.

Yeah the new generation is supposed to be about the same in gaming performance but more efficient. And rumours keep going around that the AMD 9800X3D will be released soon which should be the best gaming CPU when it comes out.. of course if you're doing something else specific and need the best for that it'll vary.

For my video card nvidia asked for pictures of my model/serial # and receipt so looks like they might be sending me a replacement. I'm lucky it crashed while running the stress test software they sent me, it's so random. I can play a few hours of a game no problem, then 20 minutes later it'll crash in YouTube.

I did figure out that even after the card goes black the video keeps going, I can even hit space to pause and resume, so that still points to it being the video card. Hopefully it is, would be bad if I RMAed it and then it keeps doing it. Unfortunately I don't have another computer to test on, everyone else has laptops now.

Yeah they sent me an RMA shipping label so that's good.

Downside is I won't have a video card so I'll have to scrounge up something.. My nephew has my 2080GTX but said he's got a 960GTX I think, maybe I'll see if I could borrow that.

Would be nice to have something that could run Diablo IV so I could at least play that while I wait.

No joke, if you want to borrow a 2080 RTX or 3060Ti I have a few laying around gathering dust

I got my nephew's card, it's a 2060 so better than I'd expected, I'll give that a try (or maybe it's a good opportunity to do stuff around the house or work on hobbies rather than playing games!), but if I start to get twitchy withdrawal I'll take you up on that!

Still making the best out of my 2060 super. Not sure if I should upgrade to AM5 before I change cards.. probably

Sent the 4090 away today (holy crap I forgot how huge and heavy that thing is) so tried the 2060 and I can get 70-80fps at 4K with DLSS and stuff set to medium in Diablo IV, so that works.

Yeah, the Intel new generation processors are disappointing in games.

I mean getting almost the same game performance for half the power of the 14900K in many cases isn't a bad thing IMO depending on what you're after.. as an upgrade from recent intel CPUs yeah that sucks. But if you're updating from many generations ago and the choice is between a 14900K and a 285K and you're not going to care about the 285K only being able to do 900fps instead of 1000fps in Valorant like the 14900K (or are ok with slightly lower fps on average than the 14900K) then it still seems like a reasonable option.

Unless you throw AMD into the choices then the 285K still doesn't really match the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D is imminent.

But part of me hopes that enough people buy the new intels so they can continue to improve and become relevant without doubling as my space heater.

Lol went to play Diablo IV and was getting terrible frame rate again.. no DLSS available? Weird. Update drivers. Reboot. Verify install. No dice.

Finally read they patched DLSS out temporarily as it was causing crashing for some ppl. Lol.

So tried the AMD and Intel ones.. the AMD one seems decent though was pretty choppy for me. Intel looked worse and was even choppier.. though maybe changing that means it has to cache a bunch of stuff so maybe I should stick with one and play for a bit?

Set it to 75% resolution with no FSR type stuff and and zero lag, just looks kinda blurry

I'm building a new rig; my current is so old I'm embarrassed to post the specs.

I'm intending to build around the 4070 ti super, so it was a question of going the ryzen or intel route. Pricing appears to be better with intel I think.

Been there... I both like and hate having to re-educate myself on the new tech every new build.
