Young pitchers will break your heart though and with 2 already in the rotation, their sucess isn't a sure thing. Both Marcum and McGowan have been something special so far.
Someone needs to come in and take that 5th spot for the Jays to even have a remote chance. Towers was Brutal vs. Colorado.
I'd like Janssen to get the chance, but I don't know if that is going to happen - maybe when League gets back - or there always is the option to move League back to the starting rotation, especially given the sucess of another Hard throwing Sinkerballer with no off speed stuff this season (Carmona in Cleveland). But one of those guys needs to take over from Towers. Now.

I expect to hear League is officially done for the season anytime. As for Janssen he has been to dominate as a setup man to be moved. I don't see any options for another starter at this point other than Towers. I guess maybe if Chacin gets Heatlhy.

Why do you expect that Flambers? He pitched in AAA last night, not everything is back right now and he still could be shutdown, but it isn't a sure thing yet.
I've heard his velocity has returned somewhat.

Matt Stairs with a two run shot in the 8th gives the Jays their 4th straight win. Halladay actually has a sub par outing but gets his 5th straight win to go to 9-2. The bats are starting to wake up a bit here as Wells seems to be hitting better in the lead off spot. If this team is going to win they'll need to hit. Gotta love Stairs the guy never gets cheated on a swing, it's go big or go home with him.

The Jays are definitely proving to be survivors. They are over .500 despite the loss of their Ace for 3-4 weeks, the loss of their closer, the loss of Troy Glaus, the loss of Overbay, etc, etc. It is good to see them win games for their ace when he struggles a little. I am not entirely convinced that they will be able to compete with the Yanks and BoSox over the remaining 90ish games but the way they have competed definitely bodes well for them.

If this team can stay as healthy as they are now, (knocks wood) with Reed Johnson coming back soon and AJ Burnett getting back in there things are looking up.
Basically the Jays are 1-0 and its a really short season from here.

No link, but heard on Sportsnet that according to Rosenthal (pardon the spelling, there) that the Jays are reportedly "listening to offers for Troy Glaus". Found that intersting. Why move Troy? Salary? Injury? Improve in other areas? Not sure who would take over at 3B if that's the case...

Stairs has been on fire. What happens to him when Overbay and Johnson some back? Pretty tough to take a guy as hot as he is out of the line-up. And with Big Frank actually contributing it isn't like you can just slide Stairs into the DH.
It is actually a nice problem to have.

I agree with you. This is baseball not hockey. Intensity counts for much less than mental health. It's a 99% mental game and some players need to just play through it to get better.

I wonder/hope if players playing well in the place of injured players will put a fire under those injured players to work had at rehab in an attempt to contribute as soon as they get back.

I sure hope it does, because right after the all star break, that road trip with 4 in NYY and 4 in Boston could really be key. Last year the trip to Yankee Stadiumn around that time, was the end of the season

Gibbons cost the Jays by leaving Tallet in there. There's no justification to leave Accardo in the pen.
Closers should be used in high leverage situations (ie; bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom 12th), not to rack up meaningless saves.
