Didn't he reject $88M per year?

I don't mind us paying top dollar if he ends up being a franchise goaltender, this is a great problem to have!

Considering we've only had two of them in franchise history (Vernon & Kipper).

I am sure the organization will appreciate that incredible donation!

Probably a good deal for Dallas. Otter could have asked for more.

This will affect Shesterkin's negotiations a bit too. All these top goalies signing for much less than Igor wants. He's probably the best but by how much?

Still think only elite goalies should get anything over 7M per season. If you are mid-tier, you should be getting around 4-6M per season on shorter term deals.
It's a pretty select group of goalies that are getting these contracts. All guys with pretty consistent histories for the most part.

Let's also keep in mind that the Flames signed a 30 year old Markstrom to a $6 million x 6 year contract 4 years ago. So consistent goalies have always been getting paid. It just seems like for the last few years, not many goalies have been consistent.

Last year also had a lot of good teams with bad/mediocre goalies really get found out.

The price is probably a reflection of not just what JO has done in Dallas, but what other's haven't done around the league.
The appreciation of a top goalie has gone back up again.

Came to say this. Swayman got too much, but Oettinger’s deal is excellent for Dallas.

I think they are very comparable goalies. But Oettinger has the track record to justify this contract, whereas Swayman doesn't.

Fair assessment, but my contention is that Sway would not be nearly as good a goalie if he didn’t play on a team like the Bruins. Oettinger, on the other hand, would give most teams a chance to win.

...I mean.. so what?

This is a goalie we're talking about here. He's played less games over the last two years than his previous back in, Alexandar Georgiev in Colorado, but I wouldn't take him over Igor. 55 GP a seasons is totally acceptable for a #1 goalie.
