Just saw the Stecher/Couturier fight. Skinner had maybe the most obvious pick in NHL history. He actually skated out of the way and then skated back in the way before he blocked Couturier. Then the PBP guys have the nerve to get pissy about Couturier hitting him, instead of kissing the refs feet that they didn't just get an interference AND an instigator to go down 5 on 3. Which absolutely should've happened.

Edmonton is the number one ranked team in the power rankings. Their power score is 14% higher than the Hurricanes at number two. Carolina at number two with a 1-1-0 record is also baffling. I understand they factor in the team's performance from last season during the first 20 games of this season, but that's a flawed design.

Edmonton is 1-3-0. They rank 32nd in goals for per game, 31st in shooting percentage, 24th in power play percentage, 31st in penalty killing percentage, 30th in goals against per game, and 31st in save percentage. They are the #1 ranked team on moneypuck. Riiiiight.

They already have that, it's called Standings. Unless you want something more granular, then it's called last night's scores.

Power rankings at this time of year are a mug's game, anyway. There isn't enough data on the current rosters to make a meaningful projection yet, and some of last year's rosters have changed beyond recognition. Remember when the Oilers were fast and the Flames were old?

"Each team's power ranking is based on their probability of beating an average NHL team. MoneyPuck's win probability model is used to calculate these scores. Stats that go into the Power Score are also shown. Recent games are weighted more heavily for each stat. During the first 20 games of each season, the team's performance from last season is factored in. Read more about how the rankings are calculated."

I think that you are right! And it rolled into the net because Mavi was too busy grabbing the opponent’s stick and falling down to draw a penalty...instead of shooting. Assists to nuclear option and the tenderness.

Which is why #### teams like the Flyers and Preds can't let them off the hook as easily as they did in the end. Every day they remain closer to the bottom than the top ramps up pressure to do something stupid now

Sooooo.....

If you read my post, you would see I talked about the 20 games input. I understand the input. What I am saying, is it's stupid. I am saying that basing current year's power ranking on last year's games is stupid, because each team's make up and injury situation is different. I am further saying that a team that was 1-3-0 should in no way be the top ranked team. They lost three games against Winnipeg, Chicago, and Calgary. They just beat the team that is tied for last in the NHL. After their win, their power score dropped. If you are the top ranked team, and you win, how would your score drop? That's a flawed system. It also doesn't compute with ranking their more recent games higher.

In no way, shape, or form do I think Edmonton is the #1 ranked power team. I do not think they have the highest probability of beating an average NHL team. What I am saying is that this is about the dumbest rankings I've seen. I'm not sure what your Soooo..... implies, unless you think that either a) Edmonton is the #1 team right now or b) you think this is the greatest system to predict wins. It's not. It's stupid, even if I understand it.
