Basically what we should have done with Bennett

He isn't converting because the game is moving too quickly for him right now - he is gripping his stick and just reacting to what's happening.

There is a huge difference between expected goals, and actual goals. Stats can help us understand something more thoroughly, but making decisions on a player's development, based on a single stat, is idiotic.

What? Bennett was never sent down, that wasn't the issue.

Not saying he was handled properly but it wasn't because he didn't get enough time at the NHL level.

The post is confusing, but I think MrMike was saying that sending him down is a good thing, and shouldn't be seen as a bad message (Mangiapane spent two and a half seasons in Stockton)

The post about Bennett does not follow from that

This is a lost season. Let's not pretend this is going to be some magical fairy tale ending. I hope most everyone still enjoys the effort and this fun, entertaining hockey when these wins become losses. I hope I do, because it will happen

Wolf and your team D coverage smothered my guys. Good team win.

I don’t think Honzek sitting for a game would be a bad thing for him to see the game from up top. They could shuffle things up. Reward Coronato and get Klapka back in for a game.

Zary Kadri Kuzmenko
Coleman Backlund Coronato
Huberdeau Pospisil Mantha
Lomberg Kirkland Klapka

There will be a time for this post. This is not it. People are happy and having fun. They don't need anyone to remind them that it won't be permanent.

Coaching matters

The Flames are better than a lot of people think, as long as everyone can achieve closer to their potential

Lots of teams are, I am sure, overlooking them early in the season. That will change soon.

I am intrigued to see how the season unfolds

No expectations, purely enjoyment

He looked more pensive in the Chicago game for sure.

And if that's the trend then you send him down.

But for me personally (you didn't direct this post at me), I had an eye test that saw a kid that looked much more comfortable than I expected, getting chances and having a lot of good touches.

Went to look up some of the individual chance generation stats and saw that backed up.

Would make for a hell of a season!

Still maintain that teams a) taking the Flames more carefully and b) the league ramping up to full speed / work ethic will spell an end to their hot start.

The Flames were the weaker team in the first half of all four games, but didn't get burned.

The best part is Treliving would have signed a bunch of dman derpth at this point. Conroy has lots of assets and cap space, but he can hold fast for now

This (though they did get burned in VAN). First of all, they're playing great, and I don't want to take anything away from them. But they have been outplayed for significant stretches in every game, and gotten away with it. Again, not in VAN, but they were able to score 6 goals in VAN, something they are not going to be able to count on every night. And so far, they are 2nd in the league in goals per game at 4.75, a pace they will not be able to maintain.

They are fun to watch, and I hope it continues, but there will be down times too. The question is: how well will they be able to right the ship when things go bad? We'll see.
