Jesus, chill out! What was originally an innocent thread with multiple sarcasms is now turning into a gang bashing frenzy. Maybe y'all should just hold hands and sing Kumbaya to make yourselves feel good at the end of the day.

I feel like the humility bar required to instead respond with “My bad, sorry for making light of it” was very low.
And yet there you are.

Saw that on the TV last night in a pub so didn’t know which stadium it was.
Doesn’t look good.

BC Place's fabric roof cost a half billion to replace 15 years ago. Tropicana's isn't retractable so it may be quite a bit less expensive to repair -- but it's a garbage stadium and hurricanes are going to get worse down there, so do they dump a couple hundred million into repairs that could be undone in the next five years?
And really, what insurer is going to insure that stadium going forward in the face of worsening storms from climate change?
It's a big deal and going to be a tough decision for the Rays' ownership and governments on what to do.

I'm just glad it didn't hit as the cat.5 with 15 foot storm surge like they projected 24 hours before.
Small blessings in a terrible situation.

They already have a deal to build a new stadium, but it will still be three more seasons before it is ready.
I wonder if they could just remove the fabric from the roof and play in it as an open air stadium for the next three seasons?

I said it isn't as bad as it seems...a non fabric roof being torn off would be FAR worse

It would be fun watching batters bang it out of the park.

The catwalks are the unique thing about Tropicana Field. I hope they repair it.

The roof in BC was completely redesigned, implying it was simply replaced in kind is wrong. If you are just replacing the fabric and none of the structure I'd be surprised if it was more than $40MM USD

You guys might want to get off your high horses, in his defence the whole thread was started with concern to where the games would be played, with zero mention of the people who live there and the deaths that would occur.
Strangely nobody mentioned this till page 5 of this thread and then the outrage swelled.

Firstly, I'm comfy up here on my high horse, thank you. Happy to get off when a retraction is made about something concerning people's lives being lost. Or a 'my bad' is enough, too.
Secondly, you don't pay my internet bill nor is calling out someone for a bad opinion against the rules. Just my opinion.

I 100% agree, but.... your opinion isn't anymore important than another and selective outrage is always entertaining

Poor quoting aside, there were 5 others who had the same opinion, which makes this a high horse party, I think. Or a herd?

Drainage will be a major problem. Indoor structures are not designed to divert millions of gallons of water to storm sewers. Assuming it's not like the Big D'oh where it's prestressed concrete next to other structures, demolishing that thing would be the prudent move. Let the Ray's play in someone's spring training facility for 3 years or Oakland.
There's enough other cleanup needed in that area. Putting resources to make the Trop functional doesn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor economically or socially to me.
