To be fair I don’t think anyone who’s working in a corporate world in the last ten years has had a boss like that.

And fear is an excellent motivator, always has been always will be. But there’s a time and place.

End of the day, Corey Perry should’ve been the vocal one in their locker room, McDavid seems as natural at giving speeches and motivating teammates as gully did when he was launching his stick nine miles up into the stands. Just seems out of character

Agreed. He's just doesn't come across as intense or serious, so it comes across as fake and silly. Gulutzan like for sure

I know everyone says they can't just fire another coach, but think about it.

Stan Bowman and Corey Perry both out of the Blackhawks organization for skeezy behaviour, and now Quenville is allowed to coach again...

The whole freak out from McDavid comes off as him whining that his team mates are letting him down… not the team or the fans down but letting down McDavid himself. It’s as if he thinks they owe him something for being on the same ice as him and he was mad that they weren’t delivering for him. He’s playing 35 minutes a night and giving hell to guys that don’t get to play 10 min.

Remember when Mavi was leading some practice sessions in the past? I wonder if Mavi appoints himself as the next coach.

He could pat himself on the back…”let’s go”.

Also, he could stay on the ice for 60 minutes and the coach wouldn’t get mad. You can’t pretend that it’s not already trending towards 30 minutes a night!

I think Quenneville will pick a better place to resume coaching

What’s crazy is… if he demanded to be named as a coach for the oilers right now, the oilers would give it to him.

The best Oilers apologist yet is Allan Mitchell (a.k.a. “Lowetide”) in the Athletic theorizing that the Oilers are losing because they are “too skilled for simple hockey.”

Please share. This is hilarious.

How many excuses do they need

I pray that narrative gains traction with their fans; the media ones and otherwise.

I looked it up, the last NHL player-coach was Doug Harvey of the Rangers in 1961. Fun little article about it if you're bored

Tell me the Oilers organization wouldn't LOVE the media attention they'd get for having the first player-coach in 63 years. Rogers would release an absolute deluge of articles, videos, social media posts non-stop for the entirety of McDavid's coaching tenure. The clicks. The eyeballs.

They so would.

Maybe giving all those big minutes to their top players in meaningless preseason games is a contributing factor to them coming out of the gates looking slow.

“It’s three games,” Mitchell pointed out, noting that early-season injuries and a cautious approach to playing veterans have contributed to the Oilers’ lack of success early in the season. Edmonton is missing intensity and urgency in the opening matchups, likely a mix of Stanley Cup Final disappointment and the same thing that always plagues the team — thinking they are too skilled to play simple hockey.

And remember, if you listen to their supporters, “the league/refs hate them”
They constantly get the benefit of the doubt, they’ve taken over as the league’s Olympic diving team and only a couple of playoff series ago, against Vancouver, they were given every break possible, blatantly.
Some really short memories up there

Well to be fair, Mitchell is being paraphrased here…. But still, it explains a lot.
