On the Perry disallowed goal an Oiler acquaintance actually used the "even Eric Francis thought it was a goal" line with me. LOL. Eric Francis huh? OK. LOL.
the Perry disallowed goal was virtually identical to a disallowed goal between the Rangers and Utah that had Rempe in the crease.
I wonder if there was a league directive to reenforce a particular aspect of the rule book

Perry hooked Vladar twice. Even so, these Toronto calls are always a coin flip

I heard Friedman talking about it today
If someone is in the crease and the goalie can’t get where he wants to be, it is going to be considered goalie interference
He thought it looks soft, but that’s the deal. Goalie has to be able to claim his space in the blue paint

The bigger issue for me with Perry on that disallowed goal was him sweeping Vladar's feet with his stick before the shot was even made. He was obviously making intentional contact with the goalie to interfere with him.
I get the logic when it is incidental contact, if the goalie has enough time to reset, then it's fine. But if a player is purposely sweeping a goalie's feet with his stick to distract him or prevents him from getting set, it shouldn't be allowed.
To be fair, the NHL has not been consistent on these types of calls in the past, so I can see why a lot of people didn't expect the goal to get called back. As someone else mentioned, I would not be surprised if the league informed teams and instructed the officials to crack down on it.
The offside one was funny though. It was glaringly obvious that Arvidsson went offside and it should have been a stoppage. At first I thought that the officials wanted to let the Oilers get away with it and hoped the Flames wouldn't make another challenge. But then when the linesman blew down the empty net post as an icing, I am thinking they were just really off their game for some reason.

I missed the first half of the game, and was listening to the Oilers radio call on Sirius while driving home while both the 'offside' goal and the Andersson goal happened
on the former- while Stauffer didn't originally see the offside (he admitted it right away as flagrant once he got a look at it) he did say the Oilers got away with chopping Kadri's stick out of his hands on the lead up to the goal- not sure if accurate or no?
for Andersson's goal- no description of it whatsoever in the game call or immediately afterwards- I had no sense on the degree to which he roamed all over them. just sort of mumble mumble Oilers , muted crowd noise (flames fans cheering) flames tie it up Andersson, mumble mumble oilers

Makes sense. The goalie shouldn't have to shove a player out of the way. The crease is his area. Doesn't matter whether contact is made, if the goalie would have to make contact to get to the area of the crease he needs to, then it's interference.

They also want to stop crease trolling. If you go into the crease unimpeded, no goal. If you go in and out, no goal.

Was amazed at the Oilers lack of resiliency. A couple disallowed goals and some physical play and they just gave up. The Flames completely dominated the 2nd half of the game and must have had 10 straight shots at one point. Draisaitl looks uninterested and McDavid was invisible save for the power play and goalie pull.

McDavid was quite visible on Andersson's goal. He was that lovely blue and orange pylon that Andersson skated around on his way to the net. That should be a regular stickhandling drill!

Can someone please explain to me why every single time Mavi gets checked, one leg gets kicked up in the air? I’ve noted it mentally before, but it’s every time and seeing it on that check it looks tremendously awkward.
There’s literally no reason to kick the leg up or for the skate to come up like that.

One thing I don't understand about McDavid on that play. He's the fastest skater in the league so why didn't he just catch up to Rasmus in the neutral zone? He just tries to lift the stick from behind a bunch of times.
I mean I guess my question answers itself in a way...

Noticed that in the past before too… it’s like he tries to draw attention to it… which is weird because it’s supposed to be embarrassing for him that he got hit. I think he has the mindset that refs will notice it more and assume it’s a penalty because you can’t hit McDavid.

Just looked at a video of him taking a bunch of hits and it’s true, his skate comes up dangerously high quite often. Someone is going to get hurt very bad eventually. Wonder what the talking heads will say when that happens

I know NHL rules are nebulous, but the goalie owns his crease. If you're standing in it and he cant move side-to-side to make the save, thats interference.

They will blame the other player because it’s obviously his fault for initiating contact on mcavi
