The whistle allowed McDavid and Draisaitl to rest, and stay out for another 2 minutes. It definitely aided the Oilers more than the Flames.

There is no reason to assume that the Oilers would just immediately move up the ice and gain the zone - they had been unable to do so for the prior 90 seconds, and at that point their guys were tired.

And the Oilers got a whistle in which they could call a timeout.

There's no reason to assume the Oilers win a faceoff, so they have a 50% chance of losing possession. So the whistle denies them sure possession with forward momentum, and puts the goalie back in the net (or risks a Flames faceoff win and easy goal). A mid-ice faceoff usually eats a good five seconds off the clock as well. It also allowed the Flames defenders the same rest.

Huska develops d period. He does well with d men. Bring and flip.

Bahl +4 anderson +6 wee gar careers year last year. Hanifin stepped up anderson etc. Myers barrie in jr etc. Huska develops d. Use it to our advantage

Pachal and Bahl are pretty good back there. Bahl quietly solid with some upside. Great work by Conroy and co. identifying and targeting talent on the cheap. The Oilers wish they could do the same!

Still not high on Miromanov. Brz or Crushnikov should supplant him by the end of the season.

True. That's one negative. But they never really regained the zone with any structure.

Oiler fans are blaming marriage for the poor play of Dria and McD. These guys were better when they weren’t engaged/married.

It is obvious that Draisaitl is completely disengaged. Signed his big contract and he couldn’t give a crap. It’s hilarious.

Each of these have been pretty gritty wins, despite the flattering scores.

Is this actually a good team??

I hope they can maintain some of this and not burn out too soon. Really fun team to watch.

On Wednesday Rob Brown is crowing about how the Oilers should start the season 4-0 on the 880 CHUD pregame show. Oof. Hopefully no win streak to bail them out this season.

Have to consider these factors

-No distractions of several player on the verge of being traded and the agent/team drama outside the rink
-Huberdeau going from a pedestrian liability to something close to the superstar that broke the record for LW assists
-Andersson looking like a bonafide #1D after wandering the desert last year also
-Pospisil destroying whatever ceiling people put on him when he made the show
-Zary himself looking like a budding star after tailing off at the end of last season
-A significantly better 4th line to provide energy and set the right tone for the next line
-A better brain behind the PP (Savard was awful)

If they're gaining elite play from guys that they weren't getting before and hit on their defense signings after the blue line was decimated from the trades, maybe it isn't completely farfetched that they could be flirting with playoffs.

They deserve 100 more of those after the Blake Coleman “kicking motion”.

Kirkland had a terrific game. I have a hankering that he's going to steal Rooney's spot. Used to play for Huska and Lambert in junior!
