In terms of league-wide revenue, no single market is bigger than the money Rogers is foolishly paying for national broadcast rights. McDavid and Draisaitl are actually making the league more money right where they are than they would in the U.S.
In Toronto, on the other hand…

Dont shoot the messenger...Oilers have more nationally broadcasted games in the US than any other team...including US teams. Every broadcast talks about them no matter whos playing. 90% of the talkimg heads picked them for the cup. Its a league wide mandate to pump the Oilers tires and its obvious.

So in your estimation then, the league has instructed the officials to give the oilers more power plays to help the cause?

Oilers, Penguins and Avalanche all have 17 nationally televised games in the US. It’s the state of the sport in the US, fans support their local team and beyond that, they have a passing interest in the biggest stars.
I don’t see this as evidence of anything more than that. Of course the NHL and its owners would prefer stars in the biggest markets but that’s not where they are.

There’s always biases towards or against players over time for certain officials I’m sure. It’s just not something that is disproportionately favouring one team in any master conspiracy.
