Wait, is Florida’s pick also top 10 protected for us?

I mean if there’s a scenario where if Flames play great this year, and Florida sucks, and we still get to pick top 10, that’s awesome.

Early days I know.

No, Floridas is top 10 protected entirely. If they pick top 10 they keep their pick and MTL get calgarys pick as long as it isn’t 1st overall, in that case. It’s really the worst case scenario.

If for some reason Florida picks top 10 and the Flames make the playoffs, MTL will just take calgarys pick and the Flames will get Florida’s 2026 (and also still get NJ pick in 2025 as long as it is also not top 10)

Sorry for the confusion. That’s my fault. I used tankathon to post “the morning after” without analysis or , as I like to call it, independent thinking. Sorry!

But isn’t it a sign of that trade that the conditions have to be peeled away to get to the truth?

If Florida is bottom 10 this season (very unlikely) I wouldnt mind their 2026 unprotected to go with Vegas unprotected

The highs are high, and the lows are low.

Two wins in a row, and all of a sudden we're not going to be a bottom-10 team, despite being one last season and carrying the 3rd lowest payroll in the NHL?

The Flames, as a team, are currently shooting at 25.9%.

It's a long season, and this has been entertaining as heck to start. Expectation is the thief of joy.

What I love so far about this team, is that they seem able to choose from a veritable buffet of styles to play with. Oh you want to get physical, we can do that. Oh a pond hockey high scoring game? Ok we're in. They even seem a lot more speedy with the youth.

Admittedly its early days and coaches will presumably start watching the team and pick them apart on their weaknesses like D coverage, but so far it's been fun.

Pospisil 2.0, This time even bigger.

Huberdeau on the PK now as well. Something he said he liked doing when he had his career year. Sutter promptly stapling him to the bench for 14 minutes a game.

Now he’s back on the PK with a hot start. Maybe coaches should listen to their players. Probably why Sutter is on the bench now for good.

Tankathon doesn't show the Florida picking transferring to Flames.

Wait, the Florida pick is Top 10 protected and would therefore slide to 2026. I see now.

What a fun game to watch. So happy for Huberdeau and his hot start. His best game as a Flames last night. Time will tell if he can keep it up, but it sure will make the season more entertaining if he can keep having games like that.

Only a few games in, but I certainly didn't have him T5 in league scoring to start the season on my bingo card.

Noticed the PP system has been altered. Often two guys stationed below the line and much less focused on filtering offense through the point. It looks good, or at least much more logical than whatever savard was running.

I may be turning into a broken record but last year that hit Pospisil makes at centre ice, he blows up the player and takes a penalty. This year, he times a solid but not explosive hit and ends up drawing an instigator penalty.

Starting the season 2 and 0 definitely feel better than 0 and 2. For a Thanksgiving wish, please make it 3 and 0 after tonight, thanks.

Expectation is the thief of joy, indeed. And hope is the mother of disappointment.
