Glad to hear. I just watched the replay again and still think it was a hit on a vulnerable player without the puck.
But noticed it was Mantha right down on the ice next to Rooney while Kobelka was doing his thing. Between Gordie Howe hat trick and being right down next to an injured teammate, Mantha was an absolute beauty last night.
Let's not get silly. It was a hit in a men's contact sport. If we are taking a play like that out of the game, which ended unfortunately but wasn't predatory, we might as well take hitting out altogether.

I doubt it. Kirkland is a C and can slot in on the 4L right away. I suppose Coronato could get in tomorrow as well though but not sure who he'd replace.
Costco has conditioned me to expect this call-up to be a more than sufficient substitution for those other big brand names. Maybe we should have all of our AHL call ups wear high numbered Kirkland jerseys from now on.

Not sure anyone has exactly said take it out of the game. You are reaching. The point is it's a penalty - it's not a legal hit. So the Flames should not come out of it killing a penalty. As a player, ou are responsible - in the same way you are responsible for stick - whether it's intentional or not.

Agreed. That hit is a nothingburger if Rooney wasn’t 4 feet from the boards. That’s the danger zone.
It was a perfect storm of 4 feet, Rooney off balance and Miller being a dick.
Silver lining was Mantha punched his face. Numerous times.

Just curious, how exactly would you define "predatory"? Hitting someone who is unable to protect themselves due to being off balance and 4 feet away from the boards, who is not a legitimate target because they have not played the puck? Would that action suggest an intent to injure someone in a vulnerable position? If so, is that not by definition "predatory"?
Edit: nobody cares because it was Rooney who was injured. If it was McDavid injured in an identical play, you can be guaranteed that there would be a multi-game suspension.

Even Rooney on Miller would from page news
He never had the puck!
