Now. Does he have a vastly less talented brother we could sign?

Hard to imagine a better way to endear himself to this fan base. Great game last night.

I don't know how anyone can say anything bad about him and his game last night. Guy is getting paid 3.5M and even if he just occasionally has games like that, he will be well worth the contract.

Mantha’s problem has been consistency.
Let’s see how he does after 20 games.
But what a game last night.

A shortie Gordie Howe Hatty in his first game as a Flame?
Against the Canucks?
What a beauty.

I’m going to get tarred and feathered for this, but I’d lock Mantha up long term. Like 5 years. He’s 30. He brings that rare combo of skill, size and grit. He’s perfect for the young guys to grow with. Unless he absolutely lights it up and we can get a king’s ransom, I’d rather keep him here for the rebuild.

I won't tar or feather you, but I'm waiting for a bigger sample size than one game. Day-to-day consistency has always been the big knock on Mantha, hasn't it?

No tar and feather, but (a) lets wait a few games before we decide what he’s going to bring on any consistent basis and (b) 5 years is way too long.

I get it but he’s always had that combo. Very hard to find in the NHL.

Yeah, sorry about that. In my defence, he's only played one game so far.
But what a game.

As a long time Mantha fan, I'm not going to get too excited just yet. When he's on, he's borderline dominant, but therein lies the problem- he's far too often mailing it in. It would be unreasonable to expect him to play every game like he did last night, but he would be a force if he put in the same effort game after game. If Huska could motivate him to perform every night (and he seems to have every reason to put down roots with a new baby) I wouldn't have a problem if they extended him a few more years.

If he can play defense responsibly (backchecking) , lead, stay healthy!! He could really really be awesome here.
Conroy did well.....he had some serious snarl last night

Other than last year where he started the season cold, Mantha tends to start seasons well:
2022-23: 4 pts in his first 7 games, followed by 2 pts in the next 8 games
2021-22: 5 pts in his first 7 games, followed by 3 pts in the next 9 games
2020-21: 7 pts in his first 11 games, followed by 2 pts in the next 12 games
2019-20: 11 pts in his first 9 games, following by 3 pts in the next 7 games
Should be interesting to revisit this thread once Mantha inevitably hits one of his lazy, cold streaks and becomes a whipping boy
