Good analysis that everyone missed seeing while admiring Zary (deservedly so) on the winning goal in OT.

The other thing about that play is that the refs could have given Miller a 5 minute major, so that they could then review the play, and get to the correct call. That happened a couple times to the Flames last year, but I don't believe it has yet been applied in the Flames' favour (as it very well could have been last night)

Another poster pointed out that Pospisil in previous years would have knocked the goalie and likely got called for interference.

This time, he brilliantly stopped on a dime and only his reputation carried into the goalie. Amazing play. Kid looked really good last night.

I agree - the more I watch the overhead view of the Rooney hit the more apparent it becomes that it was a clear boarding call. The refs certainly should have have went that route.

Instead of making a play on the puck, Miller initiates contact and accelerates through a player in an incredibly vulnerable position leading to a significant injury. It's the very definition of boarding. The fact that we went on the PK after that was pure nonsense.

Lol the refs doing the right thing for the Flames.

One day maybe.

If that was a Flame doing that he would be having a hearing today .

He played all last season, but NHL dot com still can't be bothered to learn how to spell his name. It's in the thumbnail!

Spoiler!

Nice to get that beauty and cancel out the memory of the Sprong one from the preseason

The real Connor said that the fans chanting Millers name while Rooney was knocked out rallied the team.

Disgusting and embarrassing fanbase are stupid as well. Thanks dumbasses.

Pospisil is the only Flames that would drive the net like that with speed. He's just a very useful player.

Zary goal reminded of Flames fan favorite number 14 Theo Fleury.

Agreed. Brutal sequence of events. Can throw away the rest of the period after the play. Loved how it seemed to bring them together and the response after intermission was a good sign going forward. I really like Huska, I think he's doing a great job. We have the right kind of vets in the room as well.

I'm still annoyed the Canucks goal counted when Vladar lost his mask.

Silovs must have been ####ting himself seeing Pospisil barrel down on him with that speed!

Great 1st shift, fine the rest of the game.

I'd expect we see Coronato swap spots with him one of the back-to-back games this weekend. Presume only 1 sticks around once Sharky's back.

An engaged Huberdeau, all season, would be a huge plus to this team. He actually won a few board battles and was strong in front of the net. I had no idea that Mantha had a little sandpaper to his game. I liked him out there and thought that line was pretty good. Three balanced lines would be good. Maybe Pospisil drags Mantha and Huberdeau into the fight each night.

Liked the D pairings. I think Bean and Pachal can be an excellent 3rd pairing. Better than Zadorov and Gubranson under Sutter. Both skate well and I thought they controlled the puck and moved it well too. Scratch the 1st period....I think I am really going to like Bahl.

Hella fun for the first game.

Bean was so quiet, I had to check to see if he had been benched or hurt or something because I didn't hear his name at all. Nope, 18 minutes ice time. Gotta be the quietest 18 minutes ever. This is a compliment.

Pospisil line with 5 points in total and I really like them as well. Marty rocked a 25% in the dot on the night. As that improves, this line could be even more effective.

Pachal is great. I really liked him last season.

Andersson and Bahl need a bit more soak time.

Not exactly sure where Hanley and Barrie are going to fit in. There will be injuries though.

In that, he's like Bennett when he played with Huberdeau, so maybe a fit?
