I know right! I can’t help myself!

I just want the flames to win…when they can.

It’s heart v head.

I'm adopting the NATO strategy - No Attachment To Outcome - and focusing on the game, shift by shift. It's an aspirational strategy as I'm sure I'll get caught up in the outcome at times .

He's the 10th-best top-9 forward and not one of the top-3 best 4th liners.

I just want to watch the youth blossom. Or take big steps and have fun watching them succeed. Wolf, Zary, the muchaligned until he made the team Honzek, Grushnikov, Brzustewicz , so many juicy story lines around development this year. I love it.

Do the Flames ALWAYS start game 1/82 on the road? Seems like it's NHL tradition now

I'm guessing it all depends on how Honzek shows over the first couple of weeks. Honzek is very raw, so I'm guessing will draw out fairly early (maybe after a few games) due to a faster game against top players and maybe missing assignments or not being able to execute what the coaching group expects (which is completely understandable at his age), which is when Coronato will slide into his spot in his place and show if he's a better option at this point.

I would imagine that Honzek and Coronato rotate in and out, until Sharangovich gets back. By then, they'll know which one needs to go down.

They started at home last year. But then immediately had a 5 game road trip

Honzek on the top line is great. Put him in a position to succeed and see what happens, he earned it in pre-season.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see how he fits with Kadri. Zary and Posposil did well with him last year. But I could see it being tough - especially for young players. Kadri is a bit of a puck hog sometimes and he seems to not be shy about letting his teammates know when they do something wrong (or that he didn’t like). That can be good in some ways but I could also see it making some young players second guess their own instincts or get frustrated. They tried Coronato with Kadri a bit last year and he didn’t seem to thrive playing with him as much - I remember a few occasions where Kadri got visibly frustrated with Coronato - one was a case of them going offside.

Ya, that is bush league. You should never have officials working their home teams games.

I suspect the Canucks will miss Demko more than many expect during the first 10 or so games of the season, starting tonight.

First trap game of the year for the nucks. Flames win 3-0.

Flames should win this. Vancouver's season last year was smoke and mirrors..A hot start and then pffffft. Plus the Falles are rad.

Like others , I want the Flames to get a high pick knowing how important getting an elite C is for a rebuild. That being said if you look at some rebuilds that I believe have been failing (Ducks, Sabres, Sens for instance) it has not been due to a lack of talent but years of not having cohesive teams that are tough to play against. If I am Conroy I want that top 10 pick but I also want opposing teams to not think coming to Calgary will be a cake walk. I hope this iteration of the flames is annoying as hell to play against. I expect the team to be relatively competitive before they sell some assets at the deadline so I will not mind sacrificing draft spots for laying a competitive foundation. Post deadline I do expect this team to rack up the losses so lets not freak out if they are a bit better than expected to start the season. Looking forward to this new Flames era.
