Iggy did that all in a row. Back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back.

Even if Matthews can put together 11 more 30-goal seasons he will still be 200 goals behind Ovi...

Highly unlikely that he scores exactly 30 in each of those seasons. He could cheat like this year, and score more.

Yes, but look what post he's responding to. I think he was just clarifying that the poster had his math wrong (I didn't check myself).

I didn't comment on goal total, I commented on Ovechkin's record of 18 30+ goal seasons. Matthews currently has 8 seasons with 30+ goals. To break the record he would need 11 more.

I’ll be hoping 39 year old Ovechkin hits a wall this year and scores 8 on the year.

Well, that's not nice! I hope he breaks the record, if not this season, then next!

I agree. No sense getting into the reasons for it on an internet message board, but I’m not his biggest fan. He’s been good for the game so far, but I’d love for him to ride into the sun at this point.

At this point losing a season and a half in his prime, I think he should break it or there will forever be an asterisk on the record. Let's be honest, there already kind of is since Gretzky amassed over two thirds of his goals playing in the scorefest 80s.

There's no doubt that Ovi is already the greatest goal scorer of all time.

Whether he breaks the record is still up in the air.

I think it's probably a long shot. He started out really slowly last year, but got a bunch of goals at the end of the season to make breaking the record in the remaining two years of his contract plausible. Can he do that again at 39 years old?

He probably has to get 25 this year to have a chance the next year.

This is essentially where I'm at too. If theres no lockout or Pandemic season this record is already shattered.

And he's doing it against real Professionals not 'Goldberg having a smoke.'

Yeah 42 is pipe dream this season. I think he needs to get closer to 30 this year for it to happen. Father time is undefeated and I think everyone has just waiting for him to fall off that cliff.

25 this season would mean 17 next season.

I think you have to shoot for minimum 25 this season.

That's pretty ridiculous to give an asterisk to one player that you're rooting for and not go through every other major goal scorer and give them hand ups because of time missed on various merit bases.

Injuries did him in for sure. Durability is part of what goes into the crown. He did play 10 years, putting up a lot in the 80s, so in a sense it. Would have been interesting if he was able to play another 5 years. Would he been able to put up another 300 goals in his 30s though?

I think there is a difference between games lost due to injury vs a work stoppage. Durability is up there in what makes him great.

Ovy will play 3 more seasons so don’t worry he’s breaking the record and then some
