I mean, I agree with "Smith sucks". But on the other hand if you had everyone go to pharmacies you don't have to set up the whole cold chain/distribution to GPs for those edge cases.

Money isn't unlimited, and personally I'd rather have more doctors and nurses than more cold chain distribution. (I don't know if you heard, the official measurement for all expenditures is nurses per year now).

Tl;Dr I'm fine if they cut gp distribution and invested that money elsewhere in health care for a bigger impact. If they give it to UCP cronies I'm considerably less enthusiastic.

we have a family doctor, she is an immigrant from Nigeria, wonderful lady, but man...she got here, got into a practice and she filled up immediately.

I went to her because my last Doctor retired and she had just moved into the neighborhood...somehow I got in and then she accepted the rest of my family.

Apparently one of the only reasons she accepted me was my answers when I called in.

The clinic had gotten 2 new Doctors (both from Nigeria) and asked which one I'd like to see, and my answer, after just having my former family doctor retire, was: "Which is the younger one?"

At which point they said it was her. "But...obviously she is a woman."

"She's a Doctor. I dont care if she's a woman. What difference would that make to me?"

I thought about going with: "Can she prescribe me drugs?" But I felt that that joke was probably inappropriate in that moment, so I let that one go.

Even that won't necessarily do it. I have a friend, and some relative of hers (great uncle, I think) had polio in the late '40s which permanently messed up one of his legs, as it didn't really grow properly.

Despite that, and even though he was about 80 during the pandemic, he refused to get vaccinated against COVID for whatever reason.

I didn't have a doctor for years after he pulled the plug and left Alberta. Finally got one again this year because I went to my aviation examiner and guilted him into taking me.

Mine left in February. I found a Nurse Practitioner in July. Saw her in August she got the ball rolling on a lot of things, got a letter from her in September she is leaving.
