How would Bruce Lee do in UFC?
I'm pretty sure some of you guys may have thought of this...
I saw a fight the other day with this vietnamese guy out of San Jose named Cung Le. He slowly kicked his guy's ass with just quick kicks and punches. But he was no where near as quick as Bruce Lee. So it got me thinking, how would he fair in the octogon? I think he'd kick some serious ass.

If the fight was completly stand up, then maybe. The UFC has evolved beyond just striking or just grappling, and if you don't have a good combination of both, you usually don't fair too well in it.
The real question is, how is Bruce Lee's ground game?

Thats really wierd, I asked my buddies the exact same question last night (probably Bruce Lee & UFC commercials on Spike)... he seems pretty insanely talented and fast, I wouldn't be surprised to see a guy like Bruce dominate in the Octagon

Bruce Lee would do well because of his philosophy on training. He was one of the original guys who incorporated different styles of fighting into his training.
His system of Jeet Kune Do is supposed to represent this philosophy.
On top of that he was very fast and strong for his size.

It's a good point that Bruce Lee would probably be done and over once on the ground, but I don't think any of these guys would get him on the ground to begin with because of his speed. There's a few smaller guys who can match Bruce's speed, but don't come close to matching his power. I would think that if Bruce were in the ring and his opponent tried to bring him down, he'd have no trouble slipping the move and be able to swiftly power his foot up the opponent's ass.

Yeah, I was going to say that it looks like I wasn't the only one that watched Eter the Dragon and The Bruce Lee Story last night.

That's a stupid question.
I think the answer to that is pretty clear!

I think a lot of people forget that Bruce Lee is actually very well trained in grappling techniques. Even in some of his movies, he has demonstrated that he would not hesitate to snap a neck that way. His primary preferred method of fighting is standup, but I can see him doing very well, if not dominate in UFC.
When I was training long ago, I actually got to meet a few masters that had trained or was associated with Bruce Lee. Everyone agreed that in a street fight, Bruce Lee would own you. It was not uncommon for Bruce to be challenged to a street fight on a regular basis, and sometimes when he accepted a street fight, some of them would come at him with grappling techniques, only to suffer punishment.

He certainly knew grappling techniques, but at about 140lbs, it doesn't matter if a 200+ lbs guy gets you on the ground. There's only so much you can do with such a huge weight difference.
It's funny you mention associates of Bruce Lee, because I trained for a long time under Hon Lee in Vancouver who was very good friends with Bruce during his days in Vancouver. Sifu Lee always stressed the importance of being light and fast, but also acknowledged the disadvantage of this as being if the fight got to the ground against a heavier opponent. But I agree with his opinion, that if you're truly fast enough, the fight will never, ever get to the ground.

He was a fanatical trainer so he would have learned brazilian jui jitsu, wrestling and submissions until they became second nature. And absolutely no one in his weight division would come close to matching his striking power. He'd retire undefeated in my opinion.

Good thing they have weight classifications in MMA now. However, even when they didn't, a certian Brazilian didn't have much trouble again 200 lbs opponents.

I think that's what it come down to. Are we talking Bruce Lee as is/was, or Bruce Lee with the additional styles needed for UFC.
As is, Bruce Lee would get destroyed. It's a completely different sports and without the right training he'd have no shot.
With the right training, his natural abilities and ability to learn and master fighting styles could have made him one hell of a MMA fighter.

Yeah it is isn't it?
My bad.
As for how Ali in his prime would do, there is a reason why boxing seems to be pressing the issue and bashing MMA every chance they get, and it's becasue they know that even the best boxer would likely get destroyed against a good MMA fighter. (edited to add that I mean in a MMA match, it would also go the other way)
That being said, there is nothing to keep boxers from training the disciplines they would need to do well, and once the skills are learned, their boxing skill would serve them VERY WELL. But for top teir boxers the money in boxing is better at this point so there is no incentive.
MMA fighters come from a variety of backgrounds but AFAIK there aren't really any top teir fighters that started out as purely boxers (wait...what about that "Irish Hand Grenade" guy, but he's not top teir). Anyway the point being that untill the money in MMA gets to a similar level as boxing, we probably won't see too many boxers make the jump.

I think Hulk Hogan would've dominated the MMA scene during his younger days.

A little off topic:
I remember reading somewhere before that Kareem Abdul Jabaar (probably incorrect spelling) used to beat Bruce Lee in sparring matches all the time. His reach made it almost impossible for Bruce Lee to get close to him.
So, I wonder how Kareem would have fared in UFC.
