Although I've always liked Pelletier and would've kept him myself, I can understand the decision to waive Pelletier in isolation. I don't understand the decision to keep Hanley as an 8th defenceman and put Pelletier on waivers. (It appears from this morning's practice that that's actually what the Flames have decided.)

Yeah, I just can't justify keeping him around as a 14th forward because there are lots of players ahead of him. That would be like Freddie Hamilton part 2.

You're saying Freddie Hamilton is equivalent to Jakob Pelletier?

He'll eventually be a player but I think he'll be very pedestrian in the early going for whichever team claims him. Unless that team has spots and a lot of patience for him to find his legs in the NHL, he probably winds up back on the wire in the coming months.

What time do waivers clear? Sorry if it's already noted somewhere within.

I think we'll be seeing more of this over the next several seasons.
Veterans will generally hold their spots up until they're traded or their contract runs out.
But as the team starts being more pro-active on asset management, trading away expiring contracts for picks (especially last year), there's going to be a log jam of jobs in both the NHL and AHL that we haven't seen as much before as we seem to be getting more picks/prospects than veterans moving on.
Prospects that have been around for a while will need to step up their game big time or they're going to be leapfrogged by younger, more talented players in short order.
As a fan, I don't think that's a bad thing.

Doesn’t mean he won’t, but I don’t think he’s done anything to indicate he’s a future NHLer yet. So maybe we pump the brakes.

He was trending just fine until injuries. He made the AHL rookie team in 2021-2022.

Pretty silly to waive Pelletier only to have waiver eligible Coronato start the year as the 13th forward.

No, just a similar situation where really he was brought in and kept on to appease a player. He really had no point being on the roster because he never played.

What are the chances the Flames put in a claim? Was there anyone waived yesterday that would have fit the team?
You have 50 minutes to discuss.

Looking like Conroy used one of the busiest waiver days to try get a player that needs to be playing in the AHL back to that league. We'll find out if that works in less than an hour.
So does he have to clear waivers to come back up then too or no?

nope. He also would have a window of 30 days or something where he could come up and go back down without haven't to clear waivers again.

No, reentry waivers haven't been a thing for a while.

He is battling injuries. Just like Honzek has.
Maybe we should be a little patient before writing him off?
