If true, horrible asset management (if claimed).

Stupid short sighted decision that potentially burns an asset when you have waiver eligibility still on Honzek and Klapka.

I will still be annoyed if he's waived or traded for a 5th, you need to base it on more than 4-5 games in the preseason.

3 weeks ago people were calling Honzek a bust after 3 games in Penticton, how did that work out?

Let's look at Pelletier's entire career as a pro:

21-22: 62 points in 66 AHL games, 17th in AHL scoring, 3rd among U-22 players (no NHL games)

22-23: 37 points in 35 AHL games, 1st among U22 AHLers in points per game (minimum 20GP)

7 points in 24 NHL games

23-24: The dissapointing injury riddled season with 3 points in 13 NHL games, and 12 in 18 AHL games.

His AHL production was elite for his age group in both 21-22 and 22-23 , he was a big part of a great PK on those teams, and he's actually more heralded for his 200ft play than his offensive game. Before the injury last season he was better than both Zary and Pospisil at the AHL level when they played on those teams.

He had an injury set back, trading him or waiving him now would be ridiculous asset management. Even worse than the Valimaki decision.

Reminds me so much of people wanting to waive Backlund or thinking he would never be healthy or a full time NHLer when he was 22/23 years old.

I get wanting to keep Honzek and Klapka after good camps but you have to think about long term asset management and both those guys have waiver exemptions, you need to use that as a tool if possible.

With the likelihood of him being claimed being pretty high, wonder If they explored trading him prior to waiving him? I don't think there is much chance he clears.

gutsy move by flames management but it also didn't feel right for him making the team just on waiver eligibility and first round pedigree

I would say there is about a 90% he clears.

I would almost certainly think they had explored the trade route. And if that’s the case and waivers was the route chosen, then would suggest teams around the league are not coveting a player like Pelletier at this time.

He needs to do something to stand out from the pack of bubble guys. He hasn’t.

I would also guess he clears, there will be lots of other players that are waived today.

Is he the player, that has the most upside etc,,,

Not sure,

Other young guys have passed him on the depth chart. He was given chances and didn’t do anything. Klapka and Honzek did.

This is how it works. It’s not elementary school soccer. They obviously have weighed the risk and have decided if they lose him they lose him. Which means they like other guys more. He has lost his value.

Great sport. ####ty business.

There are usually a couple teams that were interested in someone at the draft that take a chance when someone goes on waiver. For Pelletier, Montreal comes to mind. Hard to tell though, because most had him pegged for a second rounder.

Here we go.

Could see him claimed, like Valimaki a team might see his issues being injury related and a possible bounce back.
