And he was 10 minutes away from a shutout. I think he's going to have a big year.
Edit - found out it was a regular season game.

It was actually Game 1 of the regular season, but either way, 1 game is pretty much irrelevant. But that save probably gave the Devils a lot of jump after their goaltending last season.

Beauty save.

My bad, didn’t realize there was an overseas game.
Thanks.

It isn’t preseason and Markstrom came to play. It’s not just that save either. And it very much is a big deal for a guy like Markstrom to gain the trust of his team early, and it’s important for a high caliber team that significantly underperformed to have goaltending behind them starting from game one…

Don’t get me wrong, glad Calgary traded him and getting a first round pick and serviceable (or better) defender in return is decent, but I think folks who think he’ll probably play poorly in New Jersey are going to be disappointed.

It's game 1 overseas vs the crappy Sabres. Devils are going to regret this more than the Tofolli trade in a few months.

I can agree with this.
Like I said, I thought it was still a just a pre-season game.
Glad (for him) that he got off to a good start and hope he can stay healthy, that’s been his downfall. (As well all know)

I don’t think they regret the Tofolli trade. He got 26 goals in 61 games for them. Then was shipped out for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. I think it became a good trade for both teams.

I'm glad Markstrom is gone. He was always whining. It was satisfying when Conroy subtly threw shade at him during an offseason interview.

I'd say important games and consistency have been his downfall, which is a pretty brutal downfall.

always whining?

you mean that one time that a reporter asked him a question and he responded?

Markstrom was great while he was here, and I suspect he'll be great in Jersey

Great save, great goalie. For a free agent and his cap hit he was far and away our best goalie since Kiprusoff. I hope he has a Vezina calibre season.

I think that save was more difficult than it needed to be.

I honestly don't care if he has a great season or not. Having a higher 1st rounder would be nice, but I have nothing against the guy. He was one of the biggest free agents to ever choose Calgary, so I respect him for that.

He is a great goalie, but also prone to making some bad decisions and gets overly aggressive. For their sake, I hope he doesn't decide to play the puck unecessarily in risk situations.

I think he should've kept it out of the media.

He stirred up quite the sh###storm with that comment.

He did the "fierce competitor" persona way better than Stink Eye Mike did though.

He might have been referring to the Markstrom stink, which was probably at least partially a #### up because of Conroy (not getting all the approvals first, or whatever).

I didn't hear him throw shade, that's not really his style.

I always figured Markstrom was a great goalie when it didn't matter too much.

Proved me wrong against Dallas game 7.

Then maybe proved me wrong about him proving me wrong against Edm games 1-5.
