This is the worst case scenario.

No it isn't. The worst case scenario is we finish 11th worst in the league.

100% agree.

The ramifications from Treliving’s assinine and unnecessarily complicated trade with Montreal over the flames first round pick this season could set the franchise back for years in a rebuild scenario.

Think about it. That trade is forcing the team to finish bottom 10, especially if the panthers are near the top of the standings. Why did no one play that scenario out?

Not only is it a rebuild, but it is a must finish near the bottom to keep flames draft pick.

Treliving created a multi year nightmare situation that requires the flames to lose.

This is not an ordinary tank.

Actually, the worst case scenario is the flames finishing second last, getting the 2nd overall pick and still giving it to MTL because Florida finished bottom 10

Looking at the lines, I am glad that he is sharing the point with Andersson. I am hoping that Andersson continues to put up points and recovers from his slight down-turn last season (more goals, but less points than the previous two seasons). Taking him completely off the PP would result in reduction in points, and also make him a little less versatile for any team that has eyes for him.

Dude was so desperate. He was willing to destroy the team future for one last shot.

We need the reverse of the 2015 style find a way flames run. Play well and find a way to lose.

I think this season is the 2013-14 version - still played good entertaining hockey, but finished 4th from the bottom. With the selling of the UFAs last season, it sort of fits that timeline better anyway.

... but on the other hand, Flames have had an enormous amount of success with mid-round picks (3rd or later). So instead of worrying about development time, I will just focus that this signing will lead the Flames to draft the next:

Wolf - 7th round
Pospisil - 4th round
Fox - 3rd round
Mangiapane - 6th round
Gaudreau - 4th round
Ferland - 5th round
Brodie - 4th round
Prust - 3rd round
Lombardi - 3rd round
Moss - 7th round
Anderson - 3rd Round
Lydman - 4th round
Titov - 10th round
Svelha - 4th round
Hoglund - 10th round
Reichel - 4th round
Fleury - 8th round
Hull - 6th round
Suter - 9th round
Makarov - 12th round
Loob - 9th round

The more bullets in the chamber, the more likely the Flames are of actually drafting another superstar/franchise player/important depth player that leads to success.
It is an interesting discussion.

What is more valuable...the potential draft pick you'd get from flipping a player like Barrie? Or a full year of an NHL roster spot to have free for young players to cycle into?

Draft picks are fun, but I lean slightly towards the open roster spot. Kuznetsov. Grushnikov. Poirier. Jurmo. Brzustewicz. Solovyov. The Flames have a ton of young defenceman that I'd like to see get a shot at the NHL level.

Sooner or later, I want to see if these defenceman are the next Mark Cundari or the next Rasmus Andersson.

It's a good deal. He'll obviously be flipped for a pick at the deadline. Should get a lot of PP time to help boost up his production and trade value

There will be injuries, and then opportunities for the young guys.

Glad to hear it. I'm for most ideas that separate GMs with the ability to think from those who lack it.
Unfortunately it’s the dumb kind of complicated.
