No, it is a lawsuit. Lehner also filed for bankruptcy which requires him to make a good faith effort to repay his creditors.

One of the adversary litigations in the nearly two-year-old Chapter 7 bankruptcy case involving Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner has been closed, according to documents filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Las Vegas.
The case involving RMSPC Funding LLC was closed July 2, according to records.
Lehner and his wife, Donya, agreed to a stipulation June 14 to pay back nearly $3 million to the company, according to records.
The stipulation states that RMSPC will seek to garnish payment from multiple sources of income, including Lehner’s contract with the Knights this upcoming season, and amounts due to him that include holdbacks, escrow amounts and tax refunds.
RMSPC will limit its garnishing to 25 percent of Lehner’s NHL check, according to records.

So what is the reason for not showing up for his physical? Did he ask to have it in a different location and the team refused?

Sounds like he informed them that he wasn't going to make their specified date for a legit reason and the team then moved to terminate the contract as per the CBA.
What unclear is if Vegas did so for technical reasons. Or if it's because they're trying to get out of his contract for money or cap reasons.

Given the organizations history it isn't hard to guess which one.

I know he's had issues but bankruptcy after making almost 40 million is rough stuff.

Actually it is. They may well have needed to do it for technical reasons relating to LTIR.
If anything, it puts Lehner on notice that he needs to get this done.

There is even a “dateline nbc” episode on it, where lehner was a suspect for a moment.

Of course he will be paid and not count toward the cap.
https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/vegas-...hner-situation
A resolution has been reached regarding the situation between Robin Lehner and the Vegas Golden Knights.
According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Golden Knights won't have Lehner's contract on their salary cap this season saving them from placing Lehner on the LTIR and keeping one of those spots open.
Lehner will still be paid his $4.5M salary he's owed entering the 2024-25 season.

How is this not cap circumvention? Would be pretty easy to pay a player and have it not count....

I thought the question was whether Lehner would continue to be paid after violating the terms of the contract.
How does Vegas benefit by having him removed from their salary cap?
The league certainly plays favourites.

Once again the nhl proves that they don’t take the cap or contracts seriously at all.
Is there any other sport where the CBA and contract rules mean so little? Over the last decade there’s been a stupid number of sketchy practices when it comes to contracts. It’s so bush league.

So we should sign Shesterkin for 10.5M per year, and pay Huberdeau to go away?

The NHL has earned no leeway when it comes to Vegas, but I wonder if this is more to help out Lehner - Vegas could have terminated his contract, but everyone wants Lehner to be able to function, so they compromised.

At first I was laughing to myself for the absurdity of helping Vegas, but does it really? They now have $335k in cap space, and can't go over by the amount that Lehner on LTIR would have afforded. They will have to cut a player still so that means they'll have about $1.1 million cap space which will accrue over the season, maybe that's better than being able to utilize a bunch of LTIR space?
Genuinely curious as I'm no cap expert, but how is this better for Vegas than having all the LTIR space that Lehner would have provided the team?

If you're under the cap, you accrue daily cap space, allowing you to get more expensive players at the deadline. If you are in LTIR, you are not accruing any space, and can only go over what that contract would put you over.
So if you're 2 million end, and Lehner's contract is LTIRed at 4.5, then you can spend 2.5 over the cap. But you can't add anyone without subtracting.

So the real benefit to Vegas is opening up a bit of cap now to accrue which will add more at the deadline versus having LTIR space to be over the cap now.
