Pelts played center for Moncton, did he not? This kid is rock solid defensively, would be surprised if he couldn't do Rooney's role.

I could see them keeping Honzek/Klapka part of an opening night roster and not signing Barrie yet.

Then send down Honzek/Klapka later, sign Barrie, and you don't need to waive Pelletier

I'm fine with waving Rooney to avoid losing Pelletier, center depth be damned.

But I do see the two Rooneys in Calgary. The guy that thought he was in the defensive zone in a regular season game and went into the break out instead of going to the net for a scoring chance - was cut soon after by Sutter.

And the guy that blocks shots and works his tail off.

So is the pospisil experiment at center going to stick? I thought that he was destined for wing and zary for center, but it looks the opposite.

Conroy has said a couple times he doesn't see Zary as a center.

It would be idiotic to waive Pelletier to protect a couple older AHL/journeymen level players like Hanley and Rooney and I don't think they will do it. There is so little youth on the roster already and waiving a recent 1st rounder coming off a bad injury season based on a recent small sample size would be very short sighted.

If they waive Pelletier to keep Rooney as a useless 4th line C I will be upset. Pelletier deserves a bit more runway in the NHL to see what's there. If he's not working out, then you can waive him and the chance of another team taking him is even lower.

There is no reason that someone like Pospisil can't center the 4th line, and see what him and Zary have at C. Pospisil would also fit in like a glove with Lomberg and Klapka, that line would be fierce and both could help reign in Pospisil's intensity sometimes.

If Honzek looks good now imagine how good he'll look after even a couple weeks in the AHL. If Pelletier falters, Coronato and Honzek fight for the 1st call-up and Pelletier is waived then.

Keep Rooney around as a 13th player to fill-in for day-to-day injuries if you must, but ideally waive him and take a chance with Nick Abruzzese on the waiver wire.

Sharangovich - Kadri - Kuzmenko
Huberdeau - Zary - Mantha
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Lomberg - Pospisil - Klapka
Rooney (Abruzzese)

Defense looks good, as do goalies. Please don't screw up the forwards.

Why? Schwindt or Morton are probably better than anything that would hit the waiver wire.

I wouldn't worry about the lineup too much. It's going to be fluid all year and things will change. Guys will get traded, injuries happen, poor performance.

It's a perfect year to play around with the roster.

I see no reason to keep Rooney around though over Pelts.

Rooney as the 13th Forward makes more sense than that of a younger guy with upside playing big AHL minutes. That's the only reason it would make sense.

Schwindt hasn’t impressed me tbh. Morton can probably get more ice time and responsibility in the AHL to keep developing and then find his way back up later in the year.

Lots of teams (deeper than the flames) have to make tough decisions over the next few days, and there might be some solid options available for a bottom 6 center role.

Kadri needs a slavic name for that line to really get some juice.

Kadri-ov is too close to the real life jabroni in Chechnya.

Kadri-ski?

Kadrichnikov?

Kadrinovich?

Kadrikov?

I would keep Schwindt over him. Not sure he has much more upside, but he is still young.

Let's get Harnarayan to help out with this.

He won't be waived.

That would be horrible asset management and Conroy has discussed in the past that you can't lose assets for nothing.

I would say the likelihood of him being waived is literally 2%

I’m wondering what they’ll decide to do with Barrie.

And if they have a strategy to motivate Mantha.

He’s shown he can play with the big dogs. I would keep him up to maintain competition amongst the forwards. Rotate him in all over the lineup.

It’s not like our forward group is made up of a bunch of superstars. He doesn’t just have to play on the 4th line.

From what I’ve seen of Mantha I’d swap him out to the pressbox after 5 to 10 games

Someone should start a poll.
