I think How to Train Your Dragon is probably my favorite from them still, though Wild Robot is definitely up there.
I'd also say Pixar hasn't quite had the same magic for some time now. The last one from them that I really think is a masterpiece is Coco. The movies have still been good, but there's definitely less separating them from the rest of the pack these days.
I've never seen any of the How to Train Your Dragon series, I hear it's also some of the best ever, but if Wild Robot is comparable or even better, then yeah that's a rough go. Honestly the Dogman trailer looked more interesting. At least the animation is trying something.
I'd say Shrek 1, 2 and Kung Fu Panda 1, 2 are all a good level better than Wild Robot. Prince of Egypt too if we're getting out of 3-D animation. Looking at Dreamworks, I actually haven't seen a lot of their stuff.
Spiderverse really set a whole new standard of animation IMO. I haven't watched a Pixar movie in a while, mostly because I don't want to cry. I was nervous going to see Wild Robot that'd I'd be crying but it was pretty meh. And I'm easy waterworks.
I think Wild Robot was a pretty good movie. It's not one of the best animated movies ever, not close IMO, and that's what some people are making it sound like. People put How to Train Your Dragon in that category so it makes me curious. I'll probably watch it now.
Just watched the remake of Speak No Evil. Definitely more enjoyable than the original but what made the original so great was the brutality where this one isn't quite on the same level.
I'd say they're about even in terms of movies. James McAvoy is incredible in the remake.

4/5
My son and I prefer the original as well. It's not a feel good movie but the brutality of it sticks with you long after while the remake is more hollywood and not as memorable.

Y'all have mentioned some of the best animated films for kids, but what's your favorite animated movie aimed at adults?
Some of my favorites: Heavy Metal, Wizards, Fantastic Planet, Sausage Party, South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut, Fire and Ice, American Pop, Hey Good Looking.

Sausage Party is legitimately one of the worst movies I've ever watched half of (because it was too painful to continue). I can tell people, just watch the trailer -- that's it, that's the funny joke of the movie and you'll see everything worthwhile of it there. It was obviously a dumb idea those guys came up with while they were high and got it greenlit, then had no idea how to actually build a worthwhile plot or anything else funny around it.
Anyways, my two of my favorite animated movies are the Wes Anderson ones, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs. I mean, they're also still kid appropriate, but they're just funny, thoughtful, charming and beautifully animated.

The Wall? Watership Down? Lord of the rings/Hobbit Bakshi.

Anomalisa and Marcel the Shell With Shoes On are both great.
This one's somewhere in between a kids' movie and an adult one (both can watch), but it's in the discussion for my favourite movie of all time. Because of studio trouble it never got a wide release and was spottily available on cable in the early '80s, which prevented it from getting the audience it deserves. That's practically criminal because it's imaginative, strange, funny, entertaining and smart all at the same time:

Absolutely this. I shut it off. That was garbage.
I enjoyed Titan A.E., obviously Iron Giant.
