In my opinion, Coronato will play well if given the opportunity with the right players. No forwards stood out tonight for the flames. I think part of that is because every line was mostly players that are career AHL players or, at best, fringe NHLers. Coronato was playing with Kirkland and Morton. Pelletier was playing with Schwindt and Frk. Obviously the hope is that players will stand out in a good way no matter who they play with. But I watched Coronato start a give-and-go with Morton several times tonight and the second pass never made it back to Coronato. Not knocking Morton… he’s an energy player… not a scorer.
We’ve seen Coronato’s production drop off as the preseason has gone along. I’m wondering what games he’s played in and who with? Just wondering if he has played many (if any) home games. A player like Coronato can struggle with linemates that don’t help generate offence. Honzek has played better of course and deserves a roster spot more than the rest but I don’t think Coronato has been given many games with a more veteran lineup. I would have like to see that.

A little rusty since he essentially missed camp. But you can tell he will be a physical force. Big guy.

Honzek over Zary is hilarious. Same with waiving Pelletier to ‘make a point’. They should waive him if they don’t think he is an asset anymore but they don’t really have to ale any kind of point. The team is bad and will be bad for the next while and has no need to rush anything.

He looks like he accomplished his goal of landing a contract. Hopefully he has a few more goals when the lights come on.

Who is going to pick up Pelletier for their main roster. I think the fear of him getting stolen is a bit overblown.
Anyway. I just don’t think he earned it. And after all of the talk at some point you have to back the talk to save face.

The Flames have literally nothing to lose by keeping him up and allowing him time to try and reestablish his game.
The alternative is losing him for nothing and he finds his game on a new team which would be horrendous asset management.

It’s just the top speed part. He still looks slightly out of control at top speed.

All of the other prospects that have passed him are waiver exempt. The Flames will take that into consideration. I would give him a bit of runway to start the season and see how it goes.

I agree. I do think that this year is it for him to start showing he can be an NHLer.

Agree on Coronato but disagree on Pelletier. I think Swidnt was more noticeable. That shouldn't be but that's how I saw the game.

Go take a look at Mangiapanes first 20 games in the NHL
You don’t throw an asset away because of a ####ty preseason, especially when we all expect this season to be a bottom 5 team and a learning and growing season for this group.
If it’s Honzek that goes down, I hope he understand that the team will do the same to him if or when he’s in the same situation.

No one is really talking about Kirkland, but he is having one hell of a camp. As if Flames management needed more difficult decisions.
Gotta be patient with Coronato, shift-to-shift consistency isn't quite there yet, but he has the tools. Think more seasoning in the AHL will do him good.
Tough game for Wolf, but can only really blame him for 1-2 of those goals.
Also like what I've seen from Frk, not sure if it is enough for a contract, but he is doing all he can.

Flames have a lot of solid your players. A ton of young D.
No star point producers though. Hopefully some of them develop into that. It’s the missing link in the organization.

He has a contract. It's just whether or not he plays for the Flames or Wranglers.

It has gotten to the point where if Pelletier isn't the worst player on the ice, people will point out that he isn't really that bad lol.
I have nothing against the guy personally, but I feel like fans tend overrate their own players. He has 10 points in 40 games in his career. I don't know what you would get for him in a trade, but I doubt it would be much.
I hope he turns it around. I just don't think he is the same player at all since his injury, and I don't know if he ever recovers from that.

I don't think it's too big of a deal. I think it's a low probability he gets claimed, but same with basically all waiver players. It just takes one GM or even scout to that liked him recently. But people might want to give him a bit of a look this year because he was progressing ideally until the injury. Also it seems like an unnecessary risk if we were to keep Rooney or Hunt instead. Also, somebody mentioned it sends a bad message to keep him when he was surpassed. Well he was surpassed mostly due to injury and it sends a pretty bad message if they give up on you after an injury.
