They're not that loose. I don't think it's a spoiler because it's out there and pretty explicitly in the trailer.
Spoiler!
The main character is Lucius, the Emperor's nephew from the first one. According to this trailer he's also Maxiums' son, which I guess can make sense. How he ends up as a slave is anyone's guessing, but I would assume he's exiled as a threat to the throne.
It looks cool but I still just wish they'd called it something else.
"Roman Fight Guy" would have been better than 'Gladiator II.'
Ya that will ruin it for me. As it's own movie probably great, but trying to cling to the past greatness of one of the best movies of all time front to back, ya that's just bad.

Exactly.
And further, on a Casting note, I'd have cast the actor who played Joffrey in GOT as the Evil Emperor.
He just plays unlikable so well. Might as well just lean into it.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Yeah, it’s a direct sequel that takes place around 20-30 years (which is when the characters played by guys like Washington and Quinn were around) later following some of the same characters as the first one.
Did they film this like two years ago or did they CGI in Lance Reddick? Not a good sign if they’ve been holding onto it.
You might be right but hopefully they corrected things with the reshoots.

"It initially shot in 2022, and was slated to open in June 2024. But in February, Lionsgate delayed the feature by a year to June 6, 2025, in order to allow John Wick director Chad Stahelski to assist with upping the action. He worked with Ballerina helmer Len Wiseman on new action sequences that shot this year."
