Y'all realize acquired picks can be subsequently traded, right?

What about any other asset acquired in a trade - like a prospect - can that be traded, too?

True, they are more likely to give up a '23 or '22 draft pick centreman with the potential to be a top 6C who isn't currently in their lineup.

Well then they don’t get Andersson.
With him under contract we would need a legit asset in return.

In an earlier post, I suggested something similar to the Lindholm trade. Meaning, it wouldn't just be the potential top 6C but also include a (late) 1st. Even better if the other team required a salary dump (like Kuzmenko) and were willing to move some other assets like Jurmo and a conditional 4th.

That’s the fault of the scouts of those teams.
Scouts, and drafting opportunities build championship teams.
I’d sooner take the 1st + 2nd + 2nd and hopefully draft players that are better than Pinto, or multiple Pintos. I think your risk tolerance is way too low. Flames need to draft and develop their own players, and above all else they need to draft and develop players of the Nathan MacKinnon/Cale Makar tier - and acquiring Shane Pinto does not help do that.

They need both. And a 60 pt C is very valuable.
And a '60 pt C' acquired in trade, is more likely to become a 100 pt C than a 2nd or 3rd round pick is.

I don't think that follows in any way. In any case I don't see anyone offering us a 60pt C in any proposals thus far.
Take the picks!

I was responding to people who don't like the pick heavy return that was suggested.
If you think picks are too risky to be the entirety of the return, trade them afterward. The Flames would be fools to turn down an offer like that for Andersson if it came along. You're not going to be offered more value than that.
Sidebar: can someone explain what all the hubbub about Pinto is about? I've never found him very impressive, myself.

I don’t think you have seen any proposals thus far. Nor do I think you will see any proposals other than speculation until a deal is done.

I’m not sure I buy this one. Picks are picks. Just because some don’t work out, or do work out as part of a particular trade, doesn’t mean they aren’t worth while. Arguably the best C this organization has ever had was a second round pick acquired in the Kent Nilson trade. Point was a third, Bergeron was a second, Aho was a second, Hintz was a second, Wyatt Johnston was a late first, Getzlaf 19th….the list goes on. Picks are picks. Doesn’t matter if they were your own or acquired from another team.
I would also say young C’s are very rarely traded.we read for months last season, rightly or wrongly, that the Flames wanted Mercer in a trade for Markstrom. Needless to say, they didn’t get him and the Devils let their season slip through their hands. Unless Kirby Dach turns into a legitimate 1C or very strong 2C, I’m not sure if I can think of any in recent memory that have been traded. Kyle Turris?

I think the best chances are young center prospects that are projecting well but not necessarily as top 1-2 centers. For example, Bourque with Dallas. He had a great AHL season last year but likely tops out as a middle-six center. He could surprise and become something more but even if he doesn’t, he’s still a young centre of good value and would love for the flames to get someone like that.

Pierre-Luc Dubois has 3 60 point seasons and has been traded three times, although obviously there are some other issues there.

Mika Zibenijad would be a good example.

Eichel.
Tage Thompson too.
i suppose it does happen but in some (half?) it's due to a trade request.

A sure fire NHL prospect and a pick is better than a mid to late 1st and a bunch of filler picks. If that is all that is offered don't trade him now. You can get that for him at the deadline next year.

You can never get a top pick through trades. Everything is lottery-protected, top-10 protected.
The Flames need to trade for a REAL center prospect, not those "wingers who had played center for half a season in junior" types that we always seems to wish they work out at center in the NHL. Never gonna happen

So, other than Zibenijad and Thompson, has there been any C prospects in recent history you can point to who have been traded?
Very, very, seldom does it happen and if I’m not mistaken Thompson was one of those wingers converted to C.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Dont be the smartest person in the room. Just draft and develop and get as many draft picks as possible. In 2-3 years we can see where we are at positionally and organizationally and at that time you can start targeting Pinto type players. Until then draft and develop and aim for star players.
We will not win the cup without star players and we need to draft them.
