That’s good news. One of my usual alternate routes was backed up like crazy yesterday, and to be completely honest while I was stuck in it I was blaming you for asking me to share them on here the day before.

I’ve greatly enjoyed reading people’s reaction to the south bridge on Stoney over Chaparral valley. It’s been objectively entertaining and hilarious.
I asked my friend who works for the city and he said basically that the combo of fixing up the old bridge, demolition of some of the old bridge, and then building the new bridge (I was trying to get a summary of how long this puppy was under construction) and he was estimating it had to have been around 11 years. He was guess-timating and perhaps someone here knows exactly but I’m sorry- that is absolutely hilarious.
11 years to build a bridge. This country isn’t getting bad at building things- it’s gotten really bad. There’s no way that should be the timeline for a bridge. That’s insane.

He's getting a few different projects mixed up
There was work there for SE Stoney from 2010 to 2013, then it was open for 8 years, then this job which went from 2021 to now
It just feels worse because in between those jobs, the SW Stoney work took place a few km down the road

The stretch of 16 Avenue NW approaching Stoney Trail from the west has a lot of drivers scratching their heads and slamming on the brakes.
It’s a section where the posted speed goes from 110 km/h to 80 km/h, and then to 60 km/h to exit south onto Stoney Trail.
For the last several months police have had Drive Safe vehicles parked along that exit. Despite the bright yellow signage on the cruisers, drivers believe the speed trap is more of a cash grab than a safety measure.
“Everyone sees them and they brake pretty abruptly,” says Sufiyan Fahim. “This is traffic moving at 110, and then the car in front of you just brakes.”
“I’ve seen cars very close to collisions.”

The speed limit is criminally slow through that exit. Whoever chose it should be charged, arrested, and forced to pay all the tickets.

Theres a spot like that in the SE as well, NB Deerfoot onto NB Barlow, it drops from 100 to 60. Then goes up to 70 on the other side of the lights and the 'Drive Safe' will sit about 10 feet past the 60 sign.

Probably the only thing Smith has done that was a good idea. Clearly marking the driving tax collectors so you can see them a mile away.
Assuming that was a Smith thing, but maybe not.

Looks like that was during Kenney's time.

I'm of two minds on the photo radar ban. On one hand, it is another way that the UCP is consolidating their power and limiting ways that municipalities can generate revenue.
On the other hand, the police (and by extension, the city) are absolutely guilty of using using fishing holes to generate revenue. The public has become cynical about the placement of photo radar, and for good reason.
I hope that this forces the police/city to move away from the fishing holes and into playground and construction zones, where the safety argument is more transparent. They can flash non stop in those places, in my opinion.

Theres a four way stop near my house, at least twice a week I get to it and see someone blow right thru it. I treat it accordingly. Its also in a school zone. Cops would make their ticket quota there in an afternoon. Would do more for bad traffic/driver behaviour than a month of photo radar fishing.

My face is a bum!

It's the same with the paid residential permits. If they brought out parking enforcement in our neighbourhood every day this one church has something going on (seems like 4 days a week) they'd cover enforcement costs for the year in a single week.

Photo radar fishing is cheaper than using patrol cops, because they don't use actual cops in those Drive Safe vehicles. There was one near my house recently, and the guy inside was sleeping.
