Don’t know what Coronato was thinking there. He’s going to hear about that one in the dressing room

This is a little closer to regular season pace and physical play, and you see how much the kids are struggling with it. Yet, I would say that this is only about 80% of the normal regular season pace. This is why the pre-season results are meaningless and why guys like Coronato have to show they can adapt to this and still thrive. Haven't heard his name yet tonight, which is disappointing considering how he played in those first games.
 |
Was it an own goal? Looked like the Canucks player shot it in or it went off the Canucks player.

Yep.

But not an all bad period based on the fact our lineup is all ahlers and chlers.

What? He went to the front of the net, put his stick down and gave the guy a target. That's text book. Now the fact Sasson isn't overly skilled means that if Coronato does his job there it probably doesn't go in.

Criticisms:-Poirier has had a poor game.
-Parekh is too casual and needs to step up his intensity. He isn't a puck hound, and this concerns me. Looking forward to see how he evolves away from the puck and in his intensity.
 -Pelletier is invisible again...

 Positives:
 -Wolf is great.
 -I like Pospisil
-Coronato is ready for the show

Debrusk didn't touch it (though I agree with what you're saying)

I expect them to come out with a bit more energy for the 2nd period. They need to outwork the Canucks, but they haven't come close to matching them there.

 Pelletier I thought looked better.

Duehr has also looked better than in the past few games.
Honzek continues to shine in my eyes.
Parekh has moved so much from his first Penticton game. Looks good out there.

I expect more from Poirier. Terrible start to the game, and I felt he was too passive on that last play leading to the goal. Coronato lost his man, but I would like to see Poirier do a better job of challenging the puck more, and making sure that the pass doesn't make it through. I have liked his skating, however. Hopefully it is just a bit of nerves or rust.

Peletier looked better, had a nice deke on a rush to get past the d-man, but then passed it out front to no one.

Let’s see if the Flames’ farm squad can step up and compete against an actual NHL roster the rest of the game.

Someone tell Pelletier that if the option is to shoot or pass to Walker Duehr, you should just shoot.
Poirier and Coronato will want a re-do on the goal.

Beyond that, pretty decent period considering how young the Flames squad is. Lots of time to get one back.

Honzek continues to look better and better, with each game palyed
As for intensity, I think it was more just a case of them struggling with the forecheck, and not being able to get any flow going. That's what inexperienced D will do to you.
