Duehr, Rooney, Hunt, and Hanley are all guys that I hope can pushed over for younger prospects with higher upside. Nothing against any of them personally, I just think we know what those players are at this point and they aren't going to be big difference makers in the future. All of them would probably clear waivers and could be called up at some point if needed.

Maybe Rooney is a slightly different category. They are paying him quite a bit above league minimum so I think they see him as an NHLer.

Rooney is responsible and has good checking line IQ. I'd prefer to keep him for stability. He performs admirably for his role in most games.

I'm ok with Rooney as a 4th line/13th forward but feel Hanley can easily be pushed out of the organization.
Duehr has to make a statement in the next game he plays, I think he is capable.
This competition at all spots is exciting.

Rooney is a guy I think could be a decent 13th forward for us. Little extra insurance at C but not a guy you're worried to be in the press box.
Hanley, Hunt, and Duehr can all be waived.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Rooney and agree he was a solid 4th line energy guy. He is the kind of player whose spot should be up for grabs provided someone earns it. All 4 of the players listed are fine and I don't think any of them suck, I think they should be on the bubble depending on the training camp results.
The good thing about guys like Duehr, Hunt, and Rooney is that you can pin them to the 4th line and you aren't hurting organization growth. But as a rebuilding team, I see merit in having someone like Coronato playing a bit in the bottom 6 while rotating around to higher line occasionally. Line juggling is always a thing that happens even if some fans get irritated by it. Supplemented with PP time as well.

Duehr had a chance to cement his place on the team last year and was a complete no show. Inexcusable for someone in his particular position. I’m done with him. Time to move on imo.

I have to agree.
Conroy has done a really good job so far.
That Lindholm trade? Several good assets and Vancouver saw Lindholm bolt for nothing. Kuzmenko is my favourite flame to watch right now, Brzustewicz looks promising, and Jurmo and a 1st? Highway robbery
Sharangovich and a pick for Toffoli? NJ sees Toffoli walk
Tanev for Grushnikov and a second? Tanev walks from Dallas and I could see Grush making the team. I really like his game
Ignatjew has very little experience, none in NA, but looks promising
The prospects? I have to think the Flames’ D pool is one of the best prospect groups around
Connie and his team seem to evaluate players well
Great time to be a Flames fan

I think Hanley and Tinordi will be waived to the Wranglers. Barrie is signed unless he plays awful or a better option shows up on waivers like Malinski or Perunovich

You have to wonder how far ahead this team would be today if Conory took over for Treliving sooner.
It's crazy last year this time it was doom and gloom for the team, and a year later the future so far looks bright.

In Seattle he was definitely deployed in a checking role, and did a good job with Roons and Hunt.

I always felt that looking at Treliving's career path on the hockey management side, Calgary was always just a stepping stone for him and a resume builder. I figured he would always move on to a bigger market and wouldn't be surprised to see him get involved at the league level one day.
Conroy is a Calgary Flame and fully invested in this franchise. For him, I think this was always his end goal.
I think that affects their approach and overall philosophy.

Sounds like a good assumption and hopefully you are correct.

I think Conroy is the right GM for the team in their current situation. But had he taken over sooner...
Does he make a better offer to Johnny before the start of his last Flames season?
Does he make a different Tkachuk trade?
Does he move Monahan to sign Kadri?
Is he able to better manage Darryl and keep an elite coach while easing all the conflict?
His current situation is so different it's really hard to say how it all would have played out.

Rooney is also going to be a mainstay on the PK which is one of the key reasons why the Flames brought him back for another year. I think he's a lock for that reason and won't be a 13th forward guy. I think Duehr will be put on waivers since I do not see the Flames putting Pelletier there instead.
Kadri, Kuzmenko, Sharangovich, Huberdeau, Mantha, Pospisil, Backlund, Coleman, Zary, Rooney, Pelletier, Coronato, Lomberg are my guess for the 13 guys up front.
Defense is harder, but I'm thinking Andersson, Weegar, Bean, Ball, Pachal, Grushnikov, Brzustewicz, Miromonov.
In net, I'm guessing Wolf and Vladar.

Yeah even if Pelletier has an awful camp I don't see him going on waivers yet. Conroy will want to give him at least some of the season to show that he belongs on an NHL roster.

You missed a forward accidentally...Coleman is listed twice.

I am sure Conroy's approach would have been different.
Treliving already had one foot out the door and probably knew he wasn't staying past his contract expiration. He wasn't intent on making moves that had 3-5 years in the future in mind because he wasn't going to be around anyway. Conroy would have been much more future focused.
