This was making fun of an Edmonton insider. That's all.

If they can sign Barrie for a million and trade him at the deadline for a pick then I'm all for it. What's the harm... it's not like he needs to play all 82 games. Look how the Flames rejuvenated Sharangovich and Kuzmenko last year.
I know Barrie didn't work out on the Preds, but they have a much deeper defense, especially on the powerplay. Don't forget Barrie was the main piece coming back from Colorado in the Kadri deal a few years ago. Two years ago he put up 55 points between Edmonton and Nashville.
I think this is an ideal signing, especially if Andersson is moved during the year. Barrie can play more time on the powerplay, and likely be moved at the deadline. It's the perfect short term signings the Flames should make during the rebuild. It's also great to have these types of vets in the room, as surely he'll be busting his ass to secure a longterm contract next year.

Personally I really liked both Solo and Pachal in the preseason games. I wouldn't want to lose either on waivers so we could keep Barrie.
That likely means that we have to carry 8D, 13F. Which means that 2 of Duehr, Pelletier, and Schwindt will be on waivers, as well as Hanley, Hunt, Bishop, Frk, Kirkland, and Aspirot.

Every team has a Pachal or a Solovyov. They'll pass through waivers when everyone makes their final roster decisions I'd bet.

We'll certainly be carrying a full roster this season. I'm with you in that it will likely be 13F 8D. But which 8D is the question, there are just so many guys on the team right now.

Keeping Barrie all year for a 4th at the deadline is a waste of time. I'd rather give the minutes to a prospect. No shortage of guys to try out this year.
If you trade Andersson and want a vet I'm sure there's someone overpaid they could bring in for an asset.

I doubt it. Barrie won't sign someplace he's expected to eat popcorn in the pressbox. If Barrie is signing here it's because he believes that he'll be an everyday player.

I'm all for giving time to the youngsters, but I would much rather them play big minutes on the Wranglers vs getting caved in every night on the Flames.
Signing players like Barrie and flipping them for assets at the deadline is exactly the sort of thing that Conroy needs to be doing.
Barrie also keeps Rasmus off the PP and frees him up to play the important 5v5 shift once the penalty expires. That should improve his trade value, because playing on the PP does nothing but hurt it.

I think that we as Flames fans have been spoiled with very good 3rd pairings for a while now. IMO, both Pachal, and Solovyov will get claimed if exposed.
Both Pachal and Solovyov are a significant upgrade on the likes of DeSimone that was claimed on waivers last year. I think they would be an upgrade for the 3rd pairing on a team like EDM, SJS, or BUF.

I rather liked Barrie back in the day and didn't like it when Edmonton got him, but watching him more closely in Edmonton made me realize how awful he was defensively. Hopefully his time in Nashville has helped improve that. Don't need him to be Regehr, but he does need to help set a standard. If he can regain some of his past offensive form, while at least being competent defensively, then I would welcome this signing. He hasn't looked bad at all, but I do remember Conroy saying: "Vets look better in preseason on PTOs, but as the season progresses, young players will often overtake the vets."
Pachal and Solovyov need waivers. However, it isn't just them. Poirier has spent 2 season in the AHL, and should get some playing time in the NHL as part of his progression. Kuznetsov has spent 2 full seasons plus 2 partial years of 18 games total. Grushnikov has one year. Jurmo has played in a men's pro league for 3 full seasons and will probably be ready for some games as part of his development too. Brzustewicz has been outstanding, and although he hasn't had any pro experience, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get him some games in the NHL as well at some point this season.
Weegar - Miromanov
Bean - Andersson
Bean - Barrie
Pachal - Solovyov
Hanley
Barring injuries or trades, this is your waiver-eligible depth on D, some of which will require waivers next season:
Poirier
Grushnikov
Kuznetsov
Brzustewicz
Jurmo
Plus next season you have to add Parekh to the mix, so you probably will want to see some pieces at the NHL level, and figure out if you need another vet next season or not. I could definitely see a team like Edmonton putting in a claim on Pachal or Solovyov with how thin they are at D. I doubt either really gets claimed, but there is still a risk.
I bet that he does get signed. Who knows whom else ends up getting traded this season, or what injuries happen. The 'room' probably needs an injection of positive vets in there after the last couple of seasons. Lomberg will help quite a lot, but Barrie can help be part of that too. I am really on the fence - I hope they don't sign him, but unless Solovyov gets picked off waivers, I wouldn't complain.

Tyson Barrie is a good option for the Flames number 7 guy. I don't think he is trying out for a full time roster spot.

It’s a good point. The flames have a bunch of young, talented defencemen in the system right now. I think it’s important to start giving some of them opportunities in the NHL this season. Have to think about next season and beyond… the coaching staff and management will likely be hesitant to have a bunch of rookie defencemen on the team at once. So if none of Poirier, Grushnikov, Kuznetzov, Brustewicz, Jurmo, Parekh or Morin are not on the team this year… how many will be given a chance to make the team next year at the same time? The good thing is that there is a decent chance Andersson and Barrie will be traded this year. That should open up spots for at least two of those players. Would rather see at least one of them getting regular NHL reps to start the season rather than waiting for the TDL though.

In his interview he said he is here because he has a chance to show he can still play in the NHL. Don't think he meant on a rotational basis.

In the last two years he's played 24, and 41 games. It might not be up to him.

I recall a decade ago we had to resort to internet basement bloggers like Eklund for any snippet of rumours. Today we get daily insiders on the radio and internet with much more reliable information and it seems like fans are as ungrateful as ever. You don't have to love the guys delivering the message but a lot of the stuff is so much more informative than the old days and I'm just happy to have this.

This is the issue.
I would be all for signing Barrie, and prepping him for a deadline move, but the Flames have too many players that are not waiver exempt.
If they keep 8 D, Pelletier probably gets exposed.
If they keep 14 forwards, Pachal or Solovyov would get exposed.
The only way I would want to see Barrie signed would be if they are moving someone like Andersson before the season starts (which I highly doubt).

It also nice to see that it's not just the risk of waivers that is causing this nice problem, but the prospects pushing these guys out of the lineup.
Still a lot of games to go, but so far it's been good.

So expect some Logan Mailloux to Calgary rumors coming from Montreal.
https://www.danslescoulisses.com/log...ander-romanov/
On a podcast Mathias Brunet and Simon Boisvert, aren't fans of Mailloux and his offense and are speculating that the Habs may trade him like they did Alexander Romanov.
Brunet speculated Calgary as a destination because they seem to like d-men like Mailloux.
