Getting mad after a loss and giving your team a stern talking is one thing. He looked like a 5 year old who was mad mom and dad didn't buy him the toy he wanted and was pulling a tantrum.
Pure comedy yet you have Oilers fans saying it gave them a stiffy.

Exactly. This wasn’t him at the centre of the room, commanding respect and attention, with all eyes looking to their leader
It was a tantrum with others seemingly ignoring him and going about their business, putting their stuff on shelves

Yeah that's actually exactly what I would want to see from a captain if his team wasn't good enough in a SCF game. I think the biggest mistake some players can make is thinking they will get another chance when they are that close. For a lot of players, their first appearance in the finals can end up as their lone opportunity to win a cup and you have to leave it all out there. I think Oilers and their fans may find that out the hard way as I don't think the stars will align for them in the playoffs as they did this season.
As soon as game 7 ended, they fans, media and player had penciled in a 55 win season and gliding back to the Finals next season.
Even when the series was 3-0, all I was readying was Gretzky made it back after being swept. Gretzky was also 22, and didn't have the oldest team in the league.
Edmonton Journal gives Mavi an 8/10 for game 2, but pissy gets a 4/10. Removing the staples/journal bias, it’s probably a 6/10 and a 2/10.
He could be facing the referees room though, as the headline says: “ Player grades: Edmonton Oilers beat 4-1 by iffy reffing and strong Florida Panthers in Game 2 Stanley Cup final”

Nah, probably yelling at Holloway or something lol

And then gets mad when Holloway signs somewhere else.
Of course, all world Supreme leader Party leader Head of State Commander-in-chief Mavi could have contributed more than 1 assist in his combined 51 minutes of -1 hockey in the first two games.
I’ve often felt that speeches like that are more effective when leading from the front.

To me there's a difference between yelling and screaming. I'm not a fan of either but I understand in that moment why that type of thing may be warranted. But screaming comes across are more unhinged.
It's probably a nothing burger but he's just so damn awkward with all these things.

Oiler fans don’t even realize they continue to get played.
They clearly spliced audio & video together to make him seem more intense & less whiney. This is why is also sounds awkward (which is unnoticeable because awkward is Connor’s standard). “It’s not good enough” was not followed by “it’s the finals” then “DIG IN”
Why can you hear his intensity while he is putting away his gear? Morons.

One of the two wonder kids is eventually going to get hurt.

Again, we don't really have too many points of reference for this sort of thing around the league with players after playoff losses in the dressing room behind closed doors. Cameras aren't there, don't catch it or it gets edited out for the final product. This didn't.
From Iginla in any playoff series from 2004 to 2012 getting upset to Giordano in regular season games, Tkachuk and Gudbranson and who knows who else through the Covid Dallas loss, the Colorado loss and then the Oilers series...no one knows who reacted and how and in what manner, except the guys in the room, but there are always emotional outbursts.
My guess is there'd be different views of certain players on the Flames and players around the league if more of these sorts of raw dressing room emotional reactions got leaked out for public viewing and analysis.

As I am reading this, I don't think the issue is that people are getting on McDavid for showing emotion. It's that it looks manufactured and comes out as petulant. Because McDavid is a robot trying desperately to convince everyone that he is just another fellow human, it's understandable for observers to look at this and think that something is off—he's the most awkward man in hockey, and this does nothing to dispell that trope.

I just don't see Iggy, Gio, or Backlund throwing a tantrum like that.
I don't doubt at all that they've got emotional in the dressing room after losses and called their team out. But in a more stern way that the other players didn't look like they don't care.
Isn't this product supposed to give you energy? Does Connor look "energized" to you? He looks like one of those old sad hobo clown paintings you see at flea markets.
Maybe you can cheer him up at the Meet 'n' Greet?
